The Reflexive PractitionerNottingham Trent University, Kingston University
• Enquired into the value of professional practitioners in the the curriculum
• Used qualitative research involving semi-structured interviews with practitioners teaching fine art
• Additional research involved PGCert design student interviews
• Created a website with videos of the interviews, dividing the questions into debatable themes
• The website acts as a growing resource to link the debate on artists in education with verbatim accounts of artist-educator experiences
10x10Artswork, BathSpa University
• Held a series of workshops designed for teacher-practitioners
• These were designed to develop a body of material and explore professional development needs
• Employed different techniques, such as drawing and performance, with different facilitators
• Offered ‘non-HE’ spaces in which to see things differently
• Examined the ways that education and practice educate and inform each other
Visiting Design ProfessionalsCreative Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan
University
• Arose from a UK Design Skills Alliance proposal to support the development and delivery of industry-relevant curricula
• Examined the nature and extent of design professionals’ interaction with education
• Identified a range of companies, individuals and organisations in north-west England with and without involvement in art education
• Recorded interviews investigating perceived barriers to and benefits of such involvement
• Focus group discussion identified fruitful areas for collaboration and produced recommendations for both industry and HE institutions
