WintertiMeEach year, you hear the grumbles – the off-season is not an off-season anymore. It’s so short, if you get distracted for a moment you’ll look up and there will be 200 riders careening down an ancient sector of cobbles – the spring campaign well under way.


Gone are the days of arriving to the early-season stage races overweight and out of shape in hopes of finding fitness. There’s no time to imitate the legends of old and ease off over the winter. Racing becomes more competitive each year. The margin between winning and tenth and a nameless mid-pack finish seems to have shrunk to an unfathomably small dimension.


Winter is a time when those margins can be built, broadened, or, conversely, lost. Winter is a time for focus – a search for hitherto untapped capabilities hidden somewhere in the deep recesses of a body that yearns to be carved and whittled still further.


The season is long: it extends from the middle of January to the middle of October. There are only three quiet months left for race-weary riders to enjoy the quiet company of their own breathing or the joking banter of a stress-free training ride, where talk turns from vacation stories to how soon they’ll be battling a couple hundred co-workers for a chance to do it all over again the next year.

The Gabba Rain Jersey was created through efforts to provide a competitive advantage for riders in cold and wet racing conditions. With our water-resistant Nano Flex arm warmers keeping rain off the arms, a short-sleeve jacket provides core protection while not being too hot for racing conditions.

Although the Gabba was developed for racing in Belgium in March, it has become a staff favorite piece for cool, dry conditions too. Core protection without overheating is great even when the sun is shining. Your old jacket just became obsolete.

Our Nanoflex water-repellent fabric is one of those fabrics that seems miraculous. On a dry day it’s as warm and breathable as our Thermoflex fabric, but when it rains the water just runs off, thanks to the five-phase nanotechnology treatment. We’ve used an innovative construction that minimizes seams to keep you as dry as possible. While it’s not 100% waterproof, it’s the best solution we’ve ever tried for staying comfortable in any condition.

eLeMentO 7X(Air) W JACKet

This jacket is great for long rides when moisture management is a must, but it works equally well for the one-hour lunchtime ride that you manage to sneak into your busy day.

We use the best winter membrane fabrics on the market but still find ourselves wanting more breathability. That’s why we invented 7X(AIR). We start with a fully wind- and waterproof external layer and then quilt it to a fleece inner layer using the trapunto technique. This results in an extremely stretchy wind-resistant fabric, but the stitch holes give just the right amount of air permeability. The result is a continuous exchange of air on the inside of the garment that carries away moisture much better than fully sealed fabrics.

There must be a downside, right? We definitely wouldn’t take this out on a rain day, since rain will come through the quilting stitching, though the fabric is DWR treated and will shed light spray.

The Tenerissimo will keep you warm and comfortable, and it even comes in different options. Thermoflex is surprisingly lightweight and stretchy, making these tights unusually comfortable.
