HCBS Monthly Benefit Rider – This rider provides flexibility to help pay for benefits that may not be received on a daily basis.
How it works: Changes the daily benefit amount to a monthly benefit amount. Maximum payout is 31 times the DBA.
Here’s an example… Ron has a comprehensive policy with a $100 DBA. He currently receives covered services in his home three times a week at a cost of $200 per day. Since Ron purchased the HCBS Monthly Benefit Rider, his total monthly benefit is $3,100 ($100 x 31days). This enables Ron to more efficiently manage his DBA.

Here’s an example of the 3% option… Jim’s policy has a $100 DBA and the 3% compound inflation protection rider…

Compound Inflation Protection Rider This rider allows for compounding protection against the rising cost of
long term care. There are 2 options – 3%* and 5%
How it works: The Compound Inflation Protection Rider increases the Insured’s Daily Benefit Amount and unused Total Benefit Amount annually by
either 3% or 5%, depending upon the option chosen by the Insured. The increase is compounded per year for the life of the Policy, even while the
Insured is receiving benefits.
Year 1 DBA = $100Year 2 DBA = $103 ($100 x 1.03)Year 3 DBA = $106.09 ($103 x 1.03)Year 4 DBA = $109.27 ($106.09 x 1.03)Year 20 DBA = $175.35

Restoration of Benefits Rider – This rider allows the pool of benefits to be fully restored after a period of recovery from a long term care need.
How it works: Restores the total benefit amount to its original amount if we pay benefits and the insured subsequently recovers.
Here’s an example… Betty, age 65, fell and broke her hip last year. After her initial hospitalization, she was transferred to a nursing home for rehab. There, she used $5,000 of her total benefit pool to pay for services. She was able to make a full recovery and has been home now for six months. Through her Restoration of Benefits rider, the $5,000 used in rehab will be “restored” to Betty’s pool of benefits for future use.

Enhanced Elimination Period Rider – This rider allows for quicker satisfaction of the elimination period if services are not required on a daily basis.
How it works: The insured is credited with seven days toward the satisfaction of the elimination period if services are received at least once during any seven day period (Sunday – Saturday).
Here’s an example… Stuart’s policy has a 90 day elimination period. Stuart’s wife provides for his care most days, but volunteers at the town library on Tuesdays and has arranged to have a home health aide take care for Stuart. Since his policy also has the enhanced elimination period rider, Stuart will satisfy seven days of the elimination period every Tuesday when the home health aide comes in.

HCBS Waiver of Elimination Period Rider – This home and community based rider offers early help with the financial burden of LTC services while the policy elimination period is being satisfied.
How it works: The insured receives payment of benefits for HCBS services on days used to satisfy the elimination period.
Here’s an example… Kathy’s policy has a 90 day elimination period. She now needs adult day care services at a cost of $150 a day. Since she has the HCBS Waiver of Elimination Period rider, she will receive benefits for covered expenses during the initial 90 days, when she would otherwise be self funding in order to satisfy the elimination period.

Shortened Benefit Period Nonforfeiture Rider – This rider protects coverage in the event of a lapse.
How it works: If the policy is lapsed after it has been in force for at least three years, your benefits continue with modified coverage.
Here’s an example… At 49 years old, William purchased a policy with a $250 daily benefit. Unfortunately, at 60, William lost his job and was forced to lapse the policy after paying $3,500 annual premium for 11 years. Instead of completely losing coverage, William has a modified benefit pool of $38,500 ($3,500 x 11), which he can utilize in the future to pay for covered expenses.

Waiver of Premium for Covered Partners Rider – This rider relieves a covered partner of premium payments when their partner is on claim.
How it works: Premiums will be waived for the policy to which the rider is attached during any period in which the premium payments for the Covered Partner’s policy are waived.
Here’s an example… Nick and Cynthia both own policies for LTCi. Nick’s premium is $3,700 and Cynthia’s is $3,250. Last year Nick began needing the assistance of a home health aid and went on claim. While on claim, his premiums are waived. With her Waiver of Premium for Covered Partners rider, Cynthia’s premium is also waived while Nick remains on claim.

Paid-up Survivor Benefit Rider – This rider relieves the spouse and/or family of LTCi premiums in the event of the death of a covered partner.
How it works: Allows the policy and all attached riders to be paid up, with no further premiums due after both of the following conditions have been met: (a) the tenth policy anniversary date; and (b) the date of the covered partner’s death.
Here’s an example… Rhonda, 66, and Phillip, now deceased, purchased their policies eight years ago with the paid-up survivor rider. Rhonda still has to wait for the 10th policy anniversary date before her paid-up survivor rider becomes effective and no other premiums are required.

Shared Care Rider – This rider offers added protection in the event that one partner exhausts coverage under his/her individual policy.
How it works: A third pool of money is established for both covered partners so if one partner depletes his/her individual benefit pool, he/she can access additional coverage.
Here’s an example… Jack and Marie purchased the Shared Care rider with their policies. Both individual policies have a total benefit pool of $250,000, as does the shared pool. Several years ago, Jack was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and exhausted his benefit pool to pay for care. His care was then paid for out of the shared pool before his death last year. The total policy benefits Jack received equaled $350,000 ($250,000 base coverage + $100,000 shared pool). If necessary, Marie has her own base policy ($250,000), plus the remaining $150,000 of the shared pool for her covered expenses.
