MARCIA HORA - THE STAPLETON ENTERPRISE Tire amnesty program a success Unsightly used tires will now be recycled and out of sight as the Village of Stapleton’s tire amnesty collection site saw 150 ton taken in at the Village property on J Street. Grant funding from the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy is being obtained to help with the cost of the local program. Recycled scrap tires are used for artificial turf football and soccer fields, athletic running tracks, and playground surfacing. The first reading of the nuisance ordinance, a re- port on the tire amnesty collection program, and property coming up for auction within the Vil- lage, were all topics of dis- cussion at the regular Village of Stapleton board meeting held Wednesday, July 8, at the Stapleton Community Center. Nuisance Ordinance #228-220, drawn up by Village attorney Mike Bor- ders, was read. This will replace the junk ordi- nance and will be a more effective way for the Vil- lage board to clean-up un- sightly property. The tire amnesty pro- gram was a success with 150 ton being collected. A grant has been applied for to help with the cost of this program that helped rid the area of used tires at no cost to patrons. Stapleton Public Schools Superintendent Howard Gaffney was present at the meeting to present updates on the remodel- ing project at the school. The school is obtaining land to the east of the ex- isting parking lot to ex- pand parking. Property at 312 E Street and 301 C Street will be coming up for auction. This week’s Enterprise has the first of four weeks of publication of legal no- tices in these cases of the County of Logan vs. de- fendants, Ryan Hanzlick and RES Distressed Asset Fund XXI, LLC. The Vil- lage of Stapleton holds liens against these prop- erties. A grant has been submit- ted to help fund the new proposed recycling and maintenance building on Village property located on J Street. The board voted unani- mously to drop the pend- ing case against Austin Schell through the Village attorney for unpaid solid waste collection at this time. Dogs running at large and viscous dogs within the Village limits were discussed. Residents are reminded that all dogs must be on a leash, in a proper pen, or kept in- side. Armor coating of streets will include the comple- tion of 4th Street and all of H Street. The next regular Village board meeting will be Wednesday, August 12, at 7:30 p.m. at the Stapleton Community Center. 100th MCHS Graduation Exercises The day finally arrived It took some time com- ing, but the 100th gradua- tion exercises for the Class of 2020 at McPher- son County High School took place Saturday, July 11, in the high school au- ditorium.
