INTRODUCTIONMaterials take a leading role in the development oftechnology and therefore in the progress of humansociety. In short span polymeric and compositematerials have comes in big way as structuralmaterials as replacement of metal and alloys andalso to mitigate increasing demand of energy. Thiscourse will cover the basic understanding ofpreparation and utilization of different kinds ofmaterials including polymeric and compositematerials for day to day applications and foradvanced applications, like their use in energysaving and renewable energy technologies e.g.membrane based separation, fuel cell application, photovoltaics (PV) etc.

In the proposed short term course we could focuson the wide varieties of materials development withfollowing major topics:

(3) Role of size, shape and structure in the materialsproperties.

(4) Characterization of polymeric, ceramic andsemiconducting nanomaterials using diversemicroscopic (FESEM, TEM, AFM, STM) andspectoscopic (FTIR, NMR, Raman, XPS, AES,SIMS) techniques.

B. Materials for energy and environment

A. Polymeric and composite materials

Different type of synthetic methods for preparationof nano structured materials.(2) Introduction to the materials with main focus

on polymers, nanomaterials and polymernanocomposite and their applications.

(1) Synthesis of both inorganic and organicmaterials for the energy application.

(2) Membrane based gas separation andpervaporation technologies.

(3) POlymer Electrolyte Membranes (PEMs) andtheir application in fuel cell.

(4) Structure of different types of solar cell with theirfabrication approach and basic parameters.Photocatalytic nanomaterials and fuel cells.
