The following students were placed on the President’s List by earn- ing grade point average of 4.0 (all A’s) while taking 12 semester hours or more during the term: Chloe Robinson of Gilbertown, Destiny Rae Chafin of Millry, Bethany Grace Brown of Silas, Kathryn Roberts of Silas, Emily Car- oline Sikes of Silas, and Hannah McKenzie of Sweet Water. Making the Dean’s List by earning GPAs of 3.5 of above were: Kaitlyn Elizabeth Harwell of Butler; TreVeyon Shandarius Nixon of Butler; Kellie Carney of Gilbertown; Britain Weeks of Gilbertown, and Grace Hendry of Millry. Local student, teacher win NACD poster contest BUTLER -- The Choctaw County Soil & Water Conservation District recently sponsored the 2020 National Association of Conservation District’s (NACD) Poster and Essay contest, and a Patrician Academy stu- dent took top honors in the competition. Information was provided to local schools for grades K-12 (poster contest) and grades 7-12 (essay contest). The county poster winner was Lilly Wilson, a 4th grade student at Patrician Academy. Lilly’s poster entry has now been submitted for Area VI judging. Soil and Water Area VI includes: Baldwin, Butler, Choctaw, Clarke, Conecuh, Escambia, Marengo, Mobile, Monroe, Washington and Wilcox counties. In addition to the student winner, Choctaw County Elementary School teacher Valarie McGrew submitted the most posters for the NACD Poster Contest sponsored by Choctaw SWCD. Valarie was presented a prize by Choctaw County Soil & Water Conservation District Coordinator Sharon Shepherd. Student added to CCES honor roll BUTLER -- A student was left off the listing of honor roll students for the 2nd nine-weeks grading period at Choctaw County Elementary School. Ky'Moni Howard should have been listed on the B Honor Roll for the sec- ond grade. New multi-year scholarship being made available to Choctaw County High School seniors BUTLER -- A new multi- year scholarship is being made available to Choctaw County High School seniors. The Catherine and Michael Slater Scholarship Fund was es- tablished by the CCHS alumni in the Fall of 2019 at the Com- munity Foundation of East Mis- sissippi. The fund provides a schol- arship to a deserving senior from CCHS to pursue higher education at an Alabama public college. Only one scholarship will be made per year, and the scholarship is renewable throughout the student's college career if they maintain certain requirements. Butler resident graduates from Shelton State ShyTija RyKeena DuBose was listed among graduates who earned diplomas during Fall 2019 commence- ment exercises at Shelton State Com- munity College. She was among 212 students who were acknowledged for completion of their degrees during the event on Friday, December 13. Patrician Academy held its annual science fair recently, with winners in several grade divisions. Students taking honors in the Elementary Division were: (left to right) Thomas Harwell; Keri Rolison; Hayden Harwell; Kooper Minor; Brock Bonner; and Mallory Coody. (Submitted pho- tos) Winners in the Junior High Division in the PA science fair were: Kaydence Minor; Caroline Hannah; Canon Martin; Ellen Moore and Allee Rolison.
