FLOW MEASUREMENTS
1. Validating the uncertainty of flow standard
– Mass flow 40 - 1600 kg/min => Target uncertainty 0,15%*
– Volume flow 5 – 200 m3/h => Target uncertainty 0,20%*
* Requires further reducing measurement uncertainty of primary standard down to 0,10%
FLOW MEASUREMENTS
2. Investigate performance of at least two types of mass flow
and volume flow standards
– Readings as a function of flow, pressure, temperature
– Extrapolation functions (to what respect is a water calibration
representative for LNG use of a flow meter?)
– Installation effects (different flow profiles, near boiling conditions, …)
COMPOSITION MEASUREMENTS
• Validating the uncertainty of composition standard
– Cross validation with reference liquefier(s)
– Uncertainty target: 0,2% on calorific value

General
• Traceable to primary standard
• No boil-off, venting of methane to air minimized
Control parameters
• Flow Rate 5 – 200 m3/h (40 - 1600 kg/min)
Expandable to 400 m3/h
• Line pressure 1 – 10 barg(g)
• Temperature -123 to -175 °C (1 to 20 °C below boiling point)
• Composition Measurable (Mustang system), not controllable
FLOW STANDARD
Production performance
• Capacity 1 Meter under Test (MuT) per day
• Schedule of MuT 1 – 6” (expandable to 8”)
• US/DS piping 40D upstream, 8D downstream
• Calibration of two meters in series possible
• Types of MuT Coriolis, USM, Turbine, dP-type, Vortex and other
FLOW STANDARD
Metrological design rules
• LNG velocities are low to avoid flashing / bubbles.
• No double bends out of plane (swirl!), no straighteners (delta-P!)
• Temperature measurement at the position of flow meters
better than 0,1°C
• Smallest possible interconnected volumes to avoid in- and expiratory
effects during calibration time window
COMPOSITION STANDARD
• Special design sampler (subcooled conditions)
• Vaporization at conditions above critical pressure
• Gas Chromatograph
• Sampling flow rate at 7,5 ml/min (LNG) / 5 l/min (gas)
• Connectable to small volume reference LNG (liquefier system NPL and/or
Effectech)
• Connectable to LNG calibration loop
