    A Home & School Compact explains how parents and teachers will work together to make sure all of our students reach or exceed grade-level standards.

    Effective compacts:

    Link to goals of the school improvement plan

    Focus on student learning skills

    Describe how teachers will help students develop those skills using high-quality instruction

    Share strategies parents can use at home

    Explain how teachers and parents will communicate about student progress

    Describe opportunities for parents to volunteer, observe and participate in the classroom

    Communication about Student Learning

    Lindsay Middle School is committed to providing two-way communication with families about student learning. Some of the ways you can expect us to reach you are:

    Family Fun Nights

    Lindsay Middle School will offer many workshops this school year for families to learn strategies to support learning at home. These events will include:

    Homework Help and Study Skills Workshops

    Joint Developed

    The parents and staff of C. Alton Lindsay Middle School developed this Home & School Compact. Teachers suggested learning at home strategies and parents added ideas to make them more specific.

    Parents can contribute comments at any time.

  • Teachers, Parents, Students Together for Success In the classroom

    The 8th grade teams will work with students and their families to support student success on the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) exams for 8th grade Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Algebra and Geometry.

    Some of our key connections with families will be:

    Communicate regularly with Lindsay families and keep them informed of curriculum and their students educational progress.

    Design fun family literacy and math nights and share classroom strategies with families on how to help students connect personal experiences to content.

    Lindsay Middle School Students Lindsay Middle School students will join with their families and school staff to develop ideas about how they can succeed in school and obtain success in Mathematics and Reading. Students will make connections between learning at home and school by:

    Setting personal goals.

    Reading every day.

    Completing all homework assignments and studying for tests with the help of their families.

    Our Goals for Student Achievement Lindsay Middle School Goals

    Reading The percentage of ALL students passing the Virginia Reading SOL exams in May/June 2016 will be at least 75% or higher. Writing The percentage of ALL students passing the Virginia Writing SOL exam will be at least 75% or higher. Math The percentage of ALL students passing the Virginia grade level mathematics SOL exams in May/June 2016 will be at least 70% or higher. Science The percentage of ALL students passing the Virginia Grade 8 Science SOL exams in May/June 2016 will be at least 70% or higher. Social Studies The percentage of ALL students passing the Virginia Civics and Economics SOL exams in May/June 2016 will be at least 70% or higher.

    Lindsay Middle School families can support student success in Reading and Mathematics. Some of our key at-home activities will be:

    Know what Virginia Mathematics and Reading SOLs our students are expected to learn.

    Play educational games at home that support student learning.

    Provide a time, place and supplies for

    homework.

    Attend workshops, meetings, and events at Lindsay Middle School and in the community.

    Visit the Family Resource Center where

    families can check out books, games, and other educational materials for home use.
