Launch Event—year 6

On Tuesday, Year 6 participated in a Mosaic workshop as part of their learning about Islamic Civilisations. For this activity, the children created a piece of artwork inspired by Arabian Nights, their core text for the Spring Term. In addition to this, the children also learnt to construct quadrilaterals and triangles, accurately drawing and measuring angles. This learning supported them with creating symmetrical repeated patterns, inspired by Islamic Art. ‘It was a very interesting and fun experience because use different types of colours and an art form that we don’t use often.’ – Meeyah ‘The workshop was very interesting because using actual broken tiles and gems ensured that it was more realistic to actual Islamic mosaics than squares of paper.’ Virgil ‘Our artwork was based upon a front cover design of our current core text – 1001 Arabian Nights and is a great legacy project to have completed.’ Aarav

ATTENDANCE Our percentage attendance

Launch event—year 2

On the first day back to school after the Christmas holidays, Year 2 were exposed to a HUGE MESS! The area just outside 2UA’s classroom was completely destroyed. It was covered with green slime, blobs of jelly and a whole load of litter! The children were perplexed as they were unable to figure out who caused this mess and why.

The children then went onto making their own slime and thinking about the science behind this. They really enjoyed exploring the different consistencies. Next, they made their very own jelly and gobbled this up! They were able to think about how the states change from liquid to a solid. Finally, the children created their own rockets, which will be used to launch off in Northala Fields as their end of topic event.

The launch day enabled the children to begin to make links with their core text, ‘Man on the Moon’. For example, what creature is slime typically associated with? Where did the slime come from? Who littered everywhere? Who is responsible for clearing the mess? When the children finished reading the core text, they were able to make the links all by themselves! We also captured our feelings during each part of the day in order to help us create our own word banks for when the children write their diary entries about their launch day.

Launch event—year 1

On Tuesday, Year 1 got to hear about Mr Peacock’s exciting adventures as he was once a great explorer and has travelled all over the world. He showed children lots of photographs from his travels and talked about the exciting places that he has visited. Together the children located these countries on google Earth. The children were able to look, handle and use some of the equipment that Mr Peacock use to take with him. Such things included; binoculars, a compass and even a tent! ‘It was fun to see all the places that Mr Peacock explored.’ – Japji ‘I liked his binoculars because you could see things that were really far away.’ - Kavisha ‘I liked using the compass and listening to Mr Peacock’s stories.’ - Kyle

Kenny had a wonderful first Christmas! On Christmas

morning Kenny woke up to find Santa had left a stocking

just for her filled to the brim with lots of treats! Although

Kenny thoroughly enjoyed the holiday break, she was

very excited to return to school. She has received lots of

attention and many walks with staff members who also

missed her during the break. Kenny would like to know if

you enjoyed your break too?

Mrs Bhuee retires

Best wishes to Mrs Bhuee who retired at the end of

the autumn term. She worked as an SMSA at LMPS for

33 years this means that she may have looked after

over 20,000 children during her career.

Launch event—Reception On Thursday Reception had an exciting visit from Professor Memo. He spoke to the children and told them all about the amazing inventions he had made. He set the children a task in helping him prepare for travelling back in time to the dinosaurs. Children made leaves, vines and camouflage patterns to help disguise Professor Memo from the dinosaurs when he arrives. He also sent us a message telling us he arrived safely and will be in touch soon! ‘A time machine teleports you to another place.’-Fatima ‘You can find dinosaur fossils when you dig in the ground.’-Paramveer ‘Look I made a leaf to help Professor Memo camouflage from the dinosaurs.’- Harkirat

Attendance

Last week, seventeen classes’ attendance were below the target set by the Local Authority of 96.4%. Attendance is monitored closely by the school and if your child's attendance falls below 90% and they miss more than three days in any half term for whatever reason, you will be sent a letter and you may be invited to meet with the head teacher. Children with attendance of less than 90% are judged nationally as being a persistent absentee. Over a whole year 90% equals 19 days and almost one month of learning lost. I f your child becomes a persistent absentee your child ’s attendance will be monitored by Ealing Council’s attendance officer.
