Powers and Perils of Intuition

Today our lecturer teaches us about the topic- Powers and Perils of Intuition. From the

lecture, I learn that our thinking can be partly controlled and partly automatic. Our

behaviour is because of the result of controlled thinking or automatic thinking.

Controlled thinking is reflective, deliberate and conscious where our mind can think

correctly before we start to do anything. However automatic thinking is impulsive,

effortless and unconscious. For example, the first thing cross the mind of a kid who has

been punished by his teacher turns angry immediately. This kid would not appreciate

what his teacher did to him at the short temporary. In some situation, the anger leads to

fight back the teacher because of his uncontrolled thinking. In conclusion, we must be

more emotional and try to calm ourselves down whatever the situation was. This topic is

somehow relating to friendship and closeness between family members. I have learnt

how to control my emotional and try to avoid people to calm down before speak or does

anything that I may regret or something bad that happen.

Attitudes - Components and Theories

In this lecture, I learn what actually attitude is. Attitudes are positive or negative

evaluations of objects of thoughts with cognitive, affective, and behavioral components.

Lecturer said that attitudes and behavior are not the same. I learn that some factors

may cause the change of attitudes of a person, such as source, message and receiver.

The lesson, operant conditioning and observational Behavior also taught in the class.

Operant condition is a form of learning in which responses come to be controlled by

their consequences. For example, study to get a good grade and after that, study harder

to get a better result. Observation learning occurs when an organism’s responding is

influenced by the observation of others. There are 4 key processes. There are attention,

retention, reproduction and motivation. We also watch the video “monkey say monkey

do” as people always follow what people do.
