The sun will shinethe sea will calmWinds subsidewhen clouds are gone.

In our mindsfear and floodCaused one nightfrom above.

Things are gonebut we are fineFriends uniteand words are kind.

Together we,will rebuildWith mighty minds and our strong will.

We’ll push our sandand build our dunes Together we willheal our wounds.

As we buildour hearts will growand our future we shall sow.

Barnegat Lighthouse mural painted March 1986 on the wall at McDonald’s. It was a three part painting of Barnegat Inlet, circa 1890 that included the lighthouse keepers dwelling, Sunset Hotel & the lighthouse. It was donated by Manahawkin McDonald’s to the Barnegat Light new boro hall (which is the restored Coast Guard station). It hangs in their meeting room.

The Long Road HomeThe end of the island where birds fly freeSurrounded by beauty of sand and sea,

Are mangled memories of our dear friends,Houses ruined, but their hearts will mend.

Losses were great and the road is long,They’ll brush off the sand because they are strong,

With hammer and nail they’ll remember the past,But it’s the future they’ll build and come home at last.
