Biography

Sagar Lonial, MD, FACP Professor and Executive Vice Chair Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology Chief Medical Officer Winship Cancer Institute Emory University School of Medicine Atlanta, GA

Dr. Sagar Lonial is a Professor and Executive Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs in the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology at the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, where he is also the Chief Medical Officer and the Director of the Translational Research for the B-Cell Malignancy Program. Dr. Lonial earned his medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, followed by a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Lonial’s research focuses on combination therapy in B-cell malignancies, concentrating on myeloma. He is a trained physician in bone marrow transplantation with an interest in molecular therapy for lymphoma and myeloma. His clinical interests include evaluating the combination of new molecular targeted agents for B-cell tumors as well as target discovery and validation. Dr. Lonial is involved in numerous professional organizations including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, and the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation. In addition, he serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Oncology and Leukemia, is the myeloma editor for Clinical Lymphoma, Myeloma, and Leukemia, and is an invited/ad hoc reviewer for several publications including Blood, Haematologica, Clinical Cancer Research, The New England Journal of Medicine, and others. Dr. Lonial has authored/coauthored over 200 publications and was recently awarded the Celgene “Young Investigator” Award, the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation “Top 15 Innovator” Award, and the Multiple Myeloma Research Consortium “Center of the Year” award.
