Who We Are
LiveWell Wheat Ridge (LWWR) is one of 22 Colorado communities funded by LiveWell Colorado working to reduce childhood and adult obesity.
LiveWell Wheat Ridge is a partnership of community stakeholders to create an environment and culture which supports healthy eating and active living (HEAL) to combat adult and childhood obesity.
We accomplish this through supporting Wheat Ridge programs, policies and changes to the physical environment and community infrastructure.
Funding for LWWR is provided by LiveWell Colorado
Seven-year funding cycle Focus on socio-ecological model and disparately affected communities Use a coalition approach Use evidence-informed practices that are arising from around the country Focus on policy change, environmental enhancements and enhanced planning processes Housed in the Health Promotion and Lifestyle Management Program at JCPH
Socio-Ecological Model
Why Are We Here?
Currently, 55.7% of Colorado adults are overweight and 25.8% of Colorado children are overweight.
Obesity rates among children have doubled in the past 20 years.
According to the American Heart Association, the leading cause of death for women and men in the United States is heart disease.
Walking 1.5 miles/day leads to 30% decrease in risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes. However, 75% of our car trips are less than one mile.
Only 15% of our children walk or bike to school. Kaiser Permanente, 2009

Implement a task force to support exchange of work wellness best practices among large and small employers
Next Steps for LiveWell Wheat Ridge Successful Implementation of LWWR Task Forces:
