Friends and Family Birthday and Anniversary Celebration and Valentine’s Day Festivities

The Birthday and Anniversary Celebration in February will be expanded for you to invite your fam-ily and friends to celebrate with a special Valentine’s Day theme on Friday, February 14! Enjoy a delicious Valentine’s Brunch from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Dining Room. Brunch tickets for guests are available for purchase at the Front Desk. Please note, the Dining Room will observe special holiday hours and will only be open between 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the 14th. Solomon Eichner (concluded from page 1)

tertainment will be provided by American Concert Pianist, Solomon Eichner. In April of 2016, Solomon won the “Golden Key Debut” International Competi-tion at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Declared by the American Liszt Society as “A sensitive pianist, Solomon’s playing is poetic, beautiful, and moving with deep feeling.” Solomon has performed in Eng-land, Italy, Germany, Austria, Poland, and throughout the U.S. During the 2016 season, Solomon per-formed multiple concertos with orchestras including, the Western Piedmont Symphony under Conductor John Gordon Ross performing Rachmaninoff 3rd and Wilson Symphony with Conductor Mark Pe-terson, Liszt 1st. He made his Washington, D.C. debut recital at the Polish Embassy sponsored by the Paderewski Scholarship Foundation and General Edward Rowny in April 2015, and returned for his re-engagement in September of 2017.

Sponsored by the March of the Living Founda-tion, Solomon performed for the 75th Anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz in April of 2018 along-side Cellist, Amit Peled, and Violinist, Yevgeny Kutik at the Krakow Philharmonic Hall and at Auschwitz in front of a crowd of 20,000 people, in addition to a solo recital at the Krakow Jewish Cultural Center. He will debut this season in Augusta, Georgia at the Brandonwilde Chase Concert Series with Violinist, Brian Reagin.

Originally from Baltimore, Solomon graduated from the Manhattan School of Music, Peabody Con-servatory and recently received his Doctorate in Piano from the University of South Carolina with a full-scholarship. Solomon and his wife, Becky, recently relocated to Raleigh where he is on staff at Campbell University. Don’t miss this musical treat! AARP Safe Driver CourseThe AARP Safe Driver Course is the nation’s

first refresher course specifically designed for drivers age 50 and older. In many states, drivers may benefit from a discount on their auto insurance premium upon completing the course—and you will learn something new along the way. In fact, an evaluation of the course found that 97% of participants changed at least one driving habit as a result of what they learned.

AARP will offer the Driver Safety Class here on Thursday, March 12, and Friday, March 13, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Club Room. The cost of this class is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. The maximum number of partici-pants for this class is 25. The instructor will be John (J.P.) McElhone. If interested, please sign-up in the Administration Office with your AARP membership number and phone number. Payment will be accept-ed in the form of checks only. Please make checks payable to AARP the first day of class on Thursday, March 12. The last day to sign-up will be Thursday, February 28.

Spring CleaningThe first day of Spring is a little over a month

away. YOU know what that means…time for some Spring Cleaning! This, of course, is in addition to your weekly cleaning and would be a deep cleaning service. Concierge Services Department is here to assist you with this seldom enjoyed, but often much needed, activity. It is our experience that a studio or a standard one bedroom apartment can be deep cleaned in two hours, which means your charge would be $40. Please call extension 1713 to schedule an appointment.

Florida Strawberry FestivalWe have a trip planned to the Florida Strawberry

Festival in Plant City on Wednesday, March 4. The Village bus will leave at 9:00 a.m. The cost of a ticket will be $8 and will be charged to your account. Lunch will be “on your own”.

We will leave the festival at 2:15 p.m. and stop at Parkdale Farms Strawberry and Citrus Stand on the way home to purchase delicious strawberries and strawberry shortcakes.

If interested, please sign up in the Administra-tion Office. The last day to sign-up and be eligible for a refund if you need to cancel will be Monday, February 17. If you miss this cut-off date the cost of a ticket will be $10 payable at the gate. Don’t de-lay! You won’t want to miss the sights, sounds, and aromas of this popular annual event.

at 9:30 a.m. for a Hearing Clinic from Choice Hearing Solutions. This company will offer their services on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Customer service and quality of life are just a couple of the goals of this company. Other goods and services they provide in-clude: video otoscopy (used to check for ear wax); ear wax removal; hearing screenings; hearing aid clean-ing; minor hearing aid repairs; and one complimen-tary package of hearing aid batteries. Team Cornhole League Sign-UpsJoin the fun and show off your Cornhole skills!

We will set aside time each week for Cornhole League Play, similar to Wii Bowling. Play will be each Monday beginning on February 17, through March 16, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the Shuffleboard Court (weather permitting) or in the South Hall.

We have seven teams and one alternate. Each game takes approximately 30 minutes. To win the game, your team must score a total of twenty-one points. Three points are awarded for each bean bag that goes through the cornhole and one point is award-ed for each bean bag that lands on the board.

Clearwater Jazz Holiday Outreach BandThe Jazz Education Outreach Program’s initia-

tive brings live, interactive jazz music at no cost to local schools, where students experience a dynamic workshop designed to engage them with the culture, history and feel of jazz music. This workshop is taught by Frank Williams, a highly regarded educa-tor who mixes historical narration with live jazz standards and was inducted into the Drum Corps International Hall of Fame in 2013. Williams shows students how the cultural diversity of jazz stretches across the American experience. The outreach program reaches approximately 6,000 middle school students annually. This program is being offered on Tuesday, February 25, at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Four musicians from the Clearwater Jazz Holiday Outreach Band will perform. Come and learn about the history of the jazz movement.

Dress Code ReminderAs stated in the Resident’s Manual, appropriate

dress is requested in the main lobbies, Dining Rooms, and lounge areas. For example, shorts are not consid-ered suitable on Sundays, holidays, or in the Dining Rooms after 3:30 p.m. However, shorts are allowed in the Dining Room on Saturday evenings only dur-ing the summer months. For holidays celebrated with a picnic theme, shorts are suitable all day. In the common areas, Residents are required to dress in clothing appropriate for public places. Bathing suits, housecoats, and the like are not considered appropri-ate attire in the lobby areas, lounge areas, and Dining Room. Shoes must be worn at all times. Sport coats and ties are not required of the men. This dress code also applies to Guests as well as Resident’s aides.

Opera: Cavalleria RusticanaCome to the Chapel on Monday, February 17,

at 6:30 p.m. to see the opera, Cavalleria Rusticana. This simple one act opera by Pietro Mascagni is characterized by beautiful music and a traditional plot. The plot is a love quadrangle rather than the usual love triangle. This production by the Royal Opera House of London begins with a scene which foreshadows the conclusion of the opera. The total length of the opera is 1 hour and 15 minutes.

The Sanders of SMVCome to the Hobby Room on Thursday, February 13,

at 1:00 p.m. to help sand toys for the Toy Makers of East Lake. Sanding can be a great way to meet new friends, have fun, and help out this worthy cause! Help put a smile on a child’s face one toy at a time.

Jodi is a graduate of Penn State University with a degree in Administra-tion of Justice. A resident of northern Pinellas County, she is employed by Raymond James. Jodi’s topic will be “ How I got on the St. Mark Village Board and what I do there”. All men are invited to experience good fellowship and enjoy a great breakfast.

Electric Cart ReminderFor your safety, electric carts must be operated at

a moderate to slow speed, and must be driven with care at all times. Also, please be extra careful when rounding corners, as well as exiting or passing apart-ments and common rooms, since someone may be walking or riding toward you.

As a reminder, electric carts must be registered in the Administration Office. In addition, please make sure that your liability policy covers its operation (or you must purchase a rider to cover this). This is both for the Village’s as well as your protection, in the event you should accidentally strike someone with your cart. St. Mark Village cannot and will not as-sume any liability whatsoever for damages caused by individuals riding electric carts either on or off St. Mark Village premises.

We are asking that all Residents with electric carts please have their cart registered in the Admin-istration Office where a sticker will be placed on the cart indicating that the cart has been registered and proof of insurance has been verified. Registration is required annually with the renewal of your liability policy. Thank you for your cooperation.
