Live Well Be Well Champion Playbook 1.0
Regional Wellness Programs
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”
Margaret Mead
Hello Champions,
We want you to stay FIRED UP!
The Regional Wellness Team thanks you for serving as Live Well Be Well Champions. We can’t do this without your enthusiasm, active participation, and input. We’re on the journey to build a culture of health and on a quest to be the healthiest workforce in the health care industry.
Remember back at the kickoff event when you closed your eyes. You thought about what kind of champion you would be, how you would protect ‘this house,’ and the impact you could make. It’s time to put your thoughts into action!
This is version 1.0 of your Champion Playbook. Additional tools, tips, and tricks will be added over time with your feedback– we want to widely share and spread what’s working well on the ground and the front line. We’re also building a central electronic repository for Champion resources on the Mid-Atlantic States Knowledgebase (MASK). Stay tuned!
The Regional Wellness Team is fired up to support you – feel free to reach out to us anytime. We also encourage you to team up with your fellow facility champions to ensure that every staff member and physician participates in at least one program in 2017.

BackgroundKaiser Permanente’s strategic vision is to be a leader in Total Health. Total health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being for everyone. Together we can build a culture of total health that will enable all of us to be healthy, stay healthy, and thrive. We are committed to helping our members, our workforce, their families and our communities achieve Total Health.
Kaiser Permanente’s vision for workforce wellness is to create the healthiest workforce in the health care industry. Nationally this work is being done by our Healthy Workforce program (including the Total Health Incentive Plan) and regionally through our region specific Live Well Be Well Program.
The Live Well Be Well program launched in January 2012 in the Mid-Atlantic States region to create opportunities for staff and physicians to engage in a wide variety of health and wellness tools and activities to support them in being their “best.” This program is unique to the Mid-Atlantic States and unites national, regional and location specific wellness activities under one umbrella. Live Well Be Well is designed to be a one stop shop for all wellness needs. To build on existing national wellness offerings, Live Well Be Well is co-branded with Healthy Workforce (the national employee wellness program).

Live Well Be Well Champion Guide
Live Well Be Well will activate a holistic wellness program that is not just based on fitness but a surround-sound approach focusing on the main pillars of health we like to call SENSE: Sleep, Exercise, Nutrition, Stress Management, and the ability to Enjoy Life. FX Well hosts company-wide challenges focused on one of these main pillars. By offering a variety of health-focused challenges, we believe we can achieve our goal to have every single member of the Kaiser Permanente staff and physician population take part in at least one wellness event through Live Well Be Well this year.

You can’t make people change – it’s ultimately their choice. But if you create a motivating and supportive environment, people will be in a much better position to make those simple changes that have a real impact on their health.
Transformations happen when people are supportive of each other. This means making health a part of the workday. Champions provide energy, enthusiasm, and are charged with getting peers engaged in health and wellness at work.
As a champion, you’ll be the one to say, .“Want to take the stairs?.” or you might take care of the details to plan for a “team salad bar.” or walk during the lunch hour.
Keep people MOTIVATED in developing a healthy workplace culture by being a cheerleader for CHANGE

Live Well Be Well powered by FX Well Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for Champions What is Live Well Be Well? Live Well Be Well (LWBW) is a comprehensive, structured, and locally executed wellness approach that offers opportunities for staff and physicians to actively engage in all aspects of health and well-being: mind, body and spirit. The program has six core components:
1. Healthy Eating 2. Physical Activity 3. Emotional Health & Wellness 4. Prevention 5. Healthy Workplace 6. Healthy Community
In the Mid-Atlantic States, the program is supported by Health Plan, our Labor partners, and MAPMG. This three-way partnership was intentionally designed to bring critical support to the program. LWBW is executed at the local level by Site Teams. These teams are responsible for selecting wellness activities that are of most interest to the employees at their location. Why is Kaiser Permanente partnering with FX Well? FX Well has nationally recognized corporate wellness programs and a proven track record for making being healthy easy and fun. Our vision is to create the healthiest workforce in the health care industry and we can achieve that goal by combining Kaiser Permanente’s Live Well Be Well approach to wellness with FX Well’s expertise and technology. How will FX Well complement the Live Well Be program? As part of this partnership, FX Well will offer on-site group fitness classes at Kaiser Permanente medical center hubs and regional office, update facilities, and engage employees in digital challenges. These initiatives will help employees balance sleep, exercise, nutrition, stress management and enjoy life - SENSE. This is in addition to the grassroots programming that will continue to be led through LWBW Site Leads and UBT Health and Safety Champions. How do I find/access the LWBW website or FX Well Hub? You can find the website several ways:
• LWBW website: http://livewellbewellinkpmas.org/maslwbw/ • MAS homepage on Inside KP (featured sites section): http://kpnet.kp.org/mas/ • FX Well Hub direct access: https://fxwell.com/kaiserpermanente

You can also direct employees having problems with FX Well app to FX Well support. How can I learn how to connect the FX Well app to Under Armour Record? Web-ex sessions are being scheduled to walk you through how to connect the apps and how to use in the first team challenge, 20 for 20. A short how-to video has also been created to help you connect the FX Well app to the Under Armour record: https://vimeo.com/211475937. How will I be updated about LWBW powered by FX Well programs? You will be updated in several ways:
• Monthly networking calls and e-newsletters are being established to provide updates, talking points about upcoming challenges, and to promote sharing of best practices.
• Text messages are being used to provide time sensitive information. Please provide your best mobile number to [email protected] to be connected to the Champion GroupMe account.
• MCAMs will receive posters for employee lounges and ‘digital marketing kits’ with pre-made flyers to promote challenges, classes, and events at each location.
• A resource repository is also being created just for champions on the Mid-Atlantic States Knowledgebase (MASK). Stay tuned for more information.
Can I partner with the LWBW Site Team Leads and/or UBT Health & Safety Champions to promote FX Well events? Yes, we encourage you to do so to cross promote FX Well events and/or challenges. Some of you may serve in dual roles in one of these groups already. What does it take to get employees engaged? Your active involvement is the first step. Make sure that you are activated and use your experience to share word-of-mouth with others. Communication is also pivotal to the success of any campaign, event, and/or challenge. Utilize the provided materials and encourage your colleagues to activate their accounts and sign up on the FX Well hub via the existing established communication vehicles (i.e. huddles, rounding, team meetings, lunch-time conversations). I’m interested in having fitness classes at my location and I’m not at a medical center hub. How do I make a request? The locations and times of fitness classes will be continually assessed. Please send your interest and request to [email protected]. Who do I contact for other questions about Live Well Be Well or programs powered by FX Well? Please contact: Shannon Hines, Regional Wellness Programs Manager (301) 816-6559 Email: [email protected] Jamie Bennett, Regional Wellness Programs Consultant (301) 816-6175 Email: [email protected]
