Band 7.30pm – 10pmCaxton Street Jazz Band has been entertaining audiences for over 40 years with their hot jazz style, crisp arrangements and tight ensemble playing. Their broad repertoire of jazz classics from the 1920s to the 1950s includes mainstream, swing, trad/New Orleans revival and blues. The favourite and familiar names of Bernice Haydock, Tom Nicolson, John Braben, Paul Williams, Andrew Shaw and Dave McCallum complete the quality line-up.

Performances of classic songs by some of the greatest performers, as well as fascinating trivia, revealing connections between material performed and some myth busting as well!

Louise Denson Group presents Two Musical Minds

(Original Jazz / Standards) Band 7.30pm – 10pm Two of Brisbane’s most original musical minds, Andrew Garton and Louise Denson team up to present an evening of the unexpected! But you can expect clever and beautiful melodies, great solos, great grooves, high energy and excellent musicianship from these two improviser/composers. They’ll be joined by Helen Russell on bass and Reuben Bradley on the kit. Don’t miss it!

(Standards / Vocal Jazz) Band 7.30pm – 10pm

Kel Timmons is an exceptional jazz singer with a voice reminiscent of the Jazz and Soul greats of the 50s and 60s.    Backed by Brett Fowler on piano, Andrew Shaw on bass and Dave Cotgreave on drums, this hot band, featuring Clint Allen on trumpet, breathes new life into 50s and 60s jazz standards, mixing old and new forms and exploring the boundaries of modern jazz.

Jan Lennard presents “Notes of Black & Blue”

Jan Lennard returns to the BJC with her 7-piece band featuring Peter Uppman on trumpet / vocals. It will be a special evening with new songs and arrangements paying tribute to the music of Mel Torme, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald .

(Big Band Jazz / Vocal Jazz) Band 6pm – 9pm Another special BBB event as we proudly release our new CD ‘Groove Tonic’ - with the title track written and arranged by MD Brad Esbensen. The CD also features pianist Jeff Usher and songs from Lauren Cocking, Craig Martin and Alan Western. We’re sure you’re really gonna ‘love the sound’ tonight so please be there, be there, be there!

Band 7.30pm – 10pmSteve Russell joins forces with Brisbane’s finest young jazz stars to present a program of his exciting and beautiful compositions, along with a few reconfigured jazz standards. Steve’s tunes have been described as “state of the art” by Australian doyen Tony Gould; he fuses jazz with rock, Cuban and world music elements to produce genre-busting compositions that challenge and delight audiences.

Cleon Barraclough & his 10-piece Band

(Standards / Vocal Jazz / New Orleans Groove / Latin) Band 6pm – 9pm

Pianist and singer Cleon Barraclough has meticulously arranged each and every song for his 10-piece band, including special guest singers Kelsey Giorola and Andonia Allayialis.  The night features a rich selection of styles from New Orleans funk, Afro-Cuban jazz through to swing and modern jazz.   Cleon is widely respected for his exuberant improvisational abilities along with his vast skill set as musical director, arranger, composer, pianist and singer.
