Sun Reading Tokens The Sun newspaper is promoting a reading book scheme and are asking parents/guardians to collect 3,500 tokens between November 2019 and February 2020, in return for which the Sun newspaper will give us £600 worth of books. If you are able to collect any of these tokens, please hand them into the school office or to your child's class teacher. Hopefully we will be able to collect enough for us to convert them into a variety of reading materials for our library and classrooms. Thank you in anticipation.

YR Hedgehog Visit On Tuesday a representative from Snuffles Hedgehog Rescue visited Reception. Marilyn gave the children a very informative interactive talk on hedgehogs, which they really enjoyed!

Year 3 Reading Workshop On Tuesday, a reading workshop was held for our Y3 children and parents. It began with a brief E-Safety talk from Mrs Hawkes, our IT Leader, about the importance of keeping our children safe along with information, ideas and strategies on how to do this. After this, Mrs Whittaker then explained the Y3 English curriculum with particular focus on reading. She emphasised the importance of placing real value on reading and the various ways parents can support with this at home. The children then joined their parents to read the fable “ The Fox and the Crow”. Using a variety of different question stems, the children answered questions and discussed their thoughts with their parents. Mrs Johnston and Mrs Byrne followed this by looking at some of the grammatical features of the text. The session ended with the parents and children working together to answer an APE (Answer, Prove, Explain) style question. There was a lot of really lovely, positive feedback from the morning and many thanks for all the support from our families, which made the event such a success.

E-Safety Tip of the Week This week is Anti Bullying Week. The theme is “ Change Starts With Us”. There is always someone that can help and someone you can talk to if you are being bullied;- parents, carers, teachers, they will always listen. You can also look at these useful websites for support; www.childline.org.uk / www.bullying.co.uk/ www.anti-bullyingalliance.org.uk/ #antibullyingweek

Year 6 Gang Prevention Workshop This week, Y6 participated in a fun, informative workshop which taught the children to differentiate between healthy friendship choices and those which may be unwise. The children worked together to recognise ‘ red flag’ situations and how they could protect themselves from potentially dangerous activities or harmful influences. As they move towards greater independence, the children were encouraged always to share information about their whereabouts, activities and friendship groups with their parents in order to maintain relationships built on mutual trust. The children are to be commended for sharing their thoughts and feelings with such maturity.

Junior PCSOS On Tuesday, we welcomed PCSO Duncan Long and Superintendent Sarah Burton into school to carry out a presentation assembly for all of our junior PCSOs. The Junior PCSOs have all successfully completed a seven week course in order to carry out the role. During the assembly they took the pledge and were presented with a certificate and badge. Well done to all of the pupils, we are very proud of you. We look forward to seeing you make a difference to our school and the local community.
