Each class, from Year 2 to Year 6 chose someone they felt would be responsible and motivated to come up with ideas of how they can improve the school. In Year 6, we have two newly established roles; Environmental Leader and E- safety Leader to work with Year 6's. There is also an elected Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasur- er. During the first meeting the Council were keen to get started and full of enthusiasm. Many suggestions were voiced which they felt would could really benefit pupils at Little Sutton. We look forward to a busy year ahead! This Week’s Headlines Ukulele & Brass lessons—Our Ukulele and brass teachers currently have spaces for new children to begin having lessons in school. Any children from Y2 and above are welcome to have a taster session on the ukulele. Likewise any KS2 children who are interested in finding out more about playing a brass instrument are welcome to apply. The charge for tuition is £40 per half term. Please contact the school office in the first instance. Bulb donations – We would be very grateful for donations of spring bulbs that we can plant around the school. Please send these into the school office. Many thanks in anticipation. Macmillan Coffee MorningThank to everyone who attended the coffee morning today and for the donations of cakes. The morning raised £374 and our thanks go to Mrs Warren and the FoLSS team for organising the event. Scooters – Please can parents and children remember that scooters and bikes are not to be ridden on the school grounds. We have had a number of incidents recently when a scooter has run into adults legs. We do not want any further or more serious incidents to occur, so please ensure that scooters and bikes are not ridden in the playground or on paths. Thank you. Please note that the school will be closed on Monday 30th September and 25th October for staff training. Y4 Visit to Wolseley Centre On Wednesday Year 4 visited the Wolseley Centre as part of their geography work on rivers. The River Trent runs adjacent to the centre, so children were able to see first hand some of the features of the river. Centre staff, Vicky and Laura were impressed with the children’s knowledge of the vocabulary, such as ‘ meander’ and ‘ tributary’ . Over the course of the day, the children compared a pond and the river including differences in temperature, pH levels and the amount of creatures found. Overall, Year 4 had a fantastic day and the trip really brought their learning to life. Word of the Month euphoric Synonym gleeful Antonym melancholy Y3 Visit To Cannock Chase On Tuesday Year 3 enjoyed a wonderful trip to the Museum of Cannock Chase to support their topic of ‘Stone Age to Iron Age’. Despite challenging weather conditions, they had a fantastic time imagining what the life of Stone Age people would have been like inside a very atmospheric ‘cave’. They had the opportunity to try out charcoal cave drawing and hand printing with paint, alongside using real knapped flints to cut branches. This was very hard work; thank goodness for modern power tools! At the ‘summer camp’, the children explored making cordage out of nettles by stripping, beating and twisting the stems. They also used willow to make baskets. In the afternoon, they explored how the advent of metalworking transformed life for people in the Iron Age fort nearby. One of the highlights of the day was seeing the incredible teamwork and concentration demonstrated by all the children, whilst they were weight-weaving wool. They also thoroughly enjoyed trying out techniques to make coiled clay pots with some fantastic results! We look forward to sending these home once they are dried out. Many thanks to the wonderful team at the museum who made our trip so memorable.

Sports Report Football—It was a fantastic start to the season for Little Sutton against Coppice in the cup. Coppice took a 2-0 lead into half time, but two second half goals made it 2-2. Coppice took the lead again but with a minute left on the clock, an incredible solo goal brought the scores level again. After a goalless extra time, two fantastic saves took Little Sutton through to round 2 on penalties. Well done boys!

Rugby- An enjoyable Thursday evening was had by a KS1 team as they headed off to Bishop Vesey to take part in the Wilson Stuart and Rugby Tots Rugby Festival. The children really enjoyed the activities as well as learning all about the Rugby World Cup. Several children signed up to the Rug-by Tots scheme and are looking forward to future events.

FAB Leaders Recently we have produced a revised Behaviour Policy which celebrates good behaviour and has clear guidance for dealing with negative behaviour. We are proactive in working to prevent bullying through promoting our family atmosphere and kind-ness to one another. In addition, we have FAB Leaders (Friends Against Bullying). We have invested time and resources in making this a successful role to support our children. Y6 children who wanted to apply to be a FAB Leader wrote a letter to Mrs Davis to explain why they would like the role, the skills they need and how they would be suitable for the job. This was followed by a interview. The letters of application were of a very high standard, very moving, showing a real desire to make school a happy place and look after the younger children. The successful candidates will have a training course to make sure they have the right skills for the job. They will also have a special hoodie so they are easily identified to the younger children on the playground.

E-Safety Tip of the Week Internet Matters say nearly two-thirds of parents with children aged four and five say they are worried their child is spending too much time online. If you are concerned, they have a guide that may help you find the right screen time balance. Visit internetmatters.org and search for "Screen time tips".

Four Oaks Assembly Team On Tuesday, the Four Oaks Assembly Team came into school to carry out an assembly for our pupils. The pupils loved being involved in fun games, watching an amusing play and learning a new song along with actions. The theme of the assembly was peer pressure. The children were taught to make the right choices even when they may be asked to do something they know isn’t right. Thank you to the Four Oaks Assembly Team for delivering an important message through such a fun and engaging way.

Westminster Abbey Skype On Thursday, 3NJ took part in a skype lesson with Westmin-ster Abbey. They were taken on a virtual tour of the Abbey and looked at it’s location and significance in history. The main focus of the lesson was signs of worship which the children thoroughly enjoyed and learned a lot from. We

look forward to more classes carrying out Skype lessons this year.

English Hub The English Hub has got off to a flying start, providing training on Phonics for twenty schools that we are working closely with and for Literacy Specialists nationally. The training is really benefit-ing the school with the expertise we have developed and the income it has generated. We have enjoyed sharing our practice in early reading.

Author Visit We are delighted to be welcoming the author Rob Biddulph into school on Wednesday 2nd October to talk to KS1 children about his book ‘Show and Tell’. Rob Biddulph was once the Art Director of the Observer Magazine and winner of the coveted PPA Designer of the Year Award. He started by making up silly stories for his three daughters and drew pictures to go with them. ‘Show and Tell’ is Rob’s tenth picture book and he is the current official World Book Day illustra-tor. There will be the opportunity for the children to purchase a book and have it signed if they would like to. It should be a very exciting event.
