INFORMATION FOR BOTH PARISHES
17TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Our readings today talk about prayer. Our gospel shows
Luke’s version of the Lord’s Prayer. The wording is a
little different from the more familiar one in Matthew’s
gospel, though the meaning is the same, and it is the
pattern for all prayers. We begin by acknowledging God
as our Heavenly Father. We then pray for others, a theme
taken up in our first reading from the Book of Genesis.
We then ask for forgiveness for our own sins and commit
ourselves to forgiving others their transgressions against
us. Finally we ask the Father to protect us when we are
tempted by the evil one.
COLLECTION FOR THE HOLY FATHER
This weekend we will take up the Peter’s Pence
Collection, which provides Pope Francis with
the funds he needs to carry out his charitable works
around the world. The proceeds of this world-wide
collection benefit our brothers and sisters on the margins
of society, including victims of war, oppression, and
natural disasters. Please be generous to the second
collection this weekend.
HOLY FAMILY T-SHIRTS
Holy Family tee shirts are available again this summer.
Please call the parish office, let us know the size(s) you
want, and put in your order. The cost of the shirts is the
same as last year - $15. There is plenty of time to get
your shirt to wear to the parish picnic on August 21.
PARISH PICNIC
Holy Family’s annual parish picnic will be held on
Wednesday, August 21, at Rotary Park, beginning at 5:30.
Please mark your calendar and plan on joining us. The
parish will provide hot dogs, hamburgers, and ice cream.
Other food items would be appreciated. There will be
games for the children. Hope to see you there.
