Chapter 1 Our Fundraising Project
This year our school had a fundraising project for clean water in Africa. We called the project the Water Ambassadors.
Our goal was to raise $1,000. At the end of the project, we were happy to see that we exceeded our goal by $100.
We gave the money to Ryan’s Well Foundation to help build a well for clean water in an African country.
Our team organized many activities to raise money. We talked to people in
the community, and collected donations. We made and sold greeting cards. We had a bake sale and we painted henna designs on people’s hands. This book is about our Henna Design Fundraiser.

Chapter 2 Henna Design Idea
It was Mariam who suggested the idea of creating henna designs as a way to raise money.
In her country of Somalia, women get henna designs on their arms, hands, and feet to celebrate special holidays and weddings.
Henna: a paste made from leaves Getting a tattoo
Mariam thought the students at our school would be interested in getting a henna design on their hands because it looks like a tattoo.

We bought two boxes of henna tubes
from an Asian store. They cost $10.
Chapter 3 Planning for Our Henna Project
Three girls on our team are very good henna designers. They were ready to give up their lunchtime to help out.

We set the price of $3 for a small design, and $4 for a larger one.
We created posters to let people know about the activity, and the prices. We set up a table in the school cafeteria during lunchtime where everyone could see us.

Chapter 4 Making a Difference
Many students and teachers showed interest in having a henna design on their hands.
In four days, we raised $89.
This activity helped us to reach our goal. It also gave us the chance to talk to people about our fundraising project.
