Description Citric acid anhydrous is widely used in the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries to impart a clean, refreshing tartness. Its prime use is as an acidulant, but it is also used as sequestrant of metal ions to give protection from the development of off-flavors and off-odors in certain foodstuffs.
A major industrial use of citric acid is in the manufacture of ecologically compatible detergents. It is also used in chemical cleaning, concrete admixtures, plasticizers, and a range of other applications.

Notes to Physician Treat symptomatically.
Hazardous Combustion Products Thermal decomposition can lead to release of irritating gases and vapors, Carbonmonoxide (CO), Carbon dioxide (CO2).
OSHA / GHS: Eye Irrit. 2;WHMIS: E
Skin According to GHS hazard classification criteria, the product is not considered as being a skin irritant. Product dust may causemild, mechanical irritation. Health injuries are not known or expected under normal use.
Description of first aid measures
3. COMPOSITION/INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS
Specific Hazards Arising from theChemical
None known.
Ingestion Clean mouth with water and afterwards drink plenty of water.
Inhalation May cause irritation of respiratory tract. Based on the low pH, citric acid would be expected to cause irritation to therespiratory tract, resulting in a higher cough response as the inhalation exposure concentration was increased.
Sensitivity to mechanical impact No.
General Advice If symptoms persist, call a physician. Show this safety data sheet to the doctor in attendance. Use personalprotective equipment. For personal protection see section 8.
Chemical Family
Protection of First-aiders Use personal protective equipment. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing.
Ingestion Oral exposure is not anticipated under normal working conditions. Health injuries are not known or expected undernormal use.
Acids
Sensitivity to static discharge Yes. (as dust).
The following component(s) in this product are considered hazardous under applicable OSHA (USA), WHMIS (Canada),and/or NOM-002-SCT-2003 (Mexico) regulations
Chemical nature of the preparation Substance
Eye Contact Immediately flush with plenty of water. After initial flushing, remove any contact lenses and continue flushing for atleast 15 minutes. If symptoms persist, call a physician.
Main Symptoms Itching. Redness. Burning sensation.

General Hygiene Considerations When using, do not eat, drink or smoke. Regular cleaning of equipment, work area andclothing.
8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION
Personal Protective Equipment Eye/face Protection. Safety glasses with side-shields. If airborne dust concentrations are excessive, wear
goggles.
Skin and Body Protection Impervious gloves. Long sleeved clothing. Boots.
Exposure LimitsAs an airborne dust, exposure limits pertaining to "particulates not otherwise regulated" have been provided below. Specificexposure limits have not been identified for this product. However, as an irritant, it is advisable to limit worker exposure to thegreatest extent possible.
Respiratory Protection Respirator with a dust filter. In case of insufficient ventilation wear suitable respiratoryequipment.
Personal PrecautionsAvoid contact with the skin and the eyes. Use personal protective equipment. For personal protection see section 8. Avoid dustformation.

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Methods for Clean-upPick up and transfer to properly labelled containers. Avoid dust formation. Keep in suitable, closed containers for disposal.Aqueous spillage should be neutralized and treated prior to discharge. For disposal information see section 13.
Engineering Measures Local exhaust ventilation. Ensure adequate ventilation, especially in confined areas.
StorageKeep containers tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place. Keep in properly labelled containers. Keep at temperature notexceeding 23.9°C / 75°F. at 55% relative humidity. Keep away from metals. Corrosive to metals (as aqueous solution). Keep awayfrom oxidizing agents. Keep away from strong bases. Keep away from amines.
Protective Equipment and Precautions for Firefighters As in any fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatuspressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent) and full protective gear.
7. HANDLING AND STORAGE
Advice for fire-fighters
HandlingWear personal protective equipment. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Handle in accordance with good industrial hygieneand safety practice. Do not breathe vapours/dust. Use only in area provided with appropriate exhaust ventilation. Avoid dustformation in confined areas. Fine dust dispersed in air may ignite. Ensure adequate ventilation. Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) Statement
Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) contracts to procure its raw material corn from only European Union (EU)
approved varieties. Due to our large scale of operations, non-GM and GM corn cannot be segregated from one another.
Consequently, ADM’s products may or may not be produced from GM corn. The list of products can be seen at the end of
this document.
Current industry consensus is that GM DNA, or protein, in the raw material stream is denatured, degraded, or removed
through refining by successive processing which includes physical separation, heating, purification, and filtration. As a
result, GM DNA, or protein, most likely cannot be detected in measurable amounts in highly refined products.
While we do not expect to detect GM DNA or protein, ADM does periodically test for the presence of protein and DNA.
Previous samples tested for GM DNA were reported negative by a third party. We are unable to state a limit of detection
for DNA given the negative results. In addition, ADM Laboratory tests conducted for protein have tested below a
detection limit of 0.1%.
