own right. My hubby cuffed his jeans and put on a nostalgic Hawaiian printshirt. I donned a Hawaiian print halter dress and bouffant petticoat along witha hair wrap, snood and best retro sunglasses and off to the show we went tosee hundreds of amazing vintage cars and trucks. Elvis was an ever-present theme throughout the event. This reminded me ofanother nostalgic event in my clay life that made me dig out some old claypieces to photograph and share with you. Nearly two decades ago and soon after I founded the Las Vegas PolymerClay Guild, we had our first swap. Everyone decided that it we should makeLas Vegas themed magnets. I made Elvis caricatures for my trades. The first batch baked without incident. The second round wasn't asuneventful. I needed to leave the house for a few hours and forgot to set theoven timer. My clay oven is in a safe location, on a heatproof surface. None-the-less, the excess baking time can affect translucent and flesh coloredclays. What I found upon coming home was a batch of Elvi (I hope that's the correctpluralized version of Elvis) that were decided darker than I had hoped for.Since the swap was that evening, there was no time to whip up another batchof Elvises (perhaps this is the proper plural version). When giving my swap presentation, I explained that participants could choosefrom either the pale, pasty, Memphis Elvis or the deeply tanned, hanging outby the Las Vegas Hilton pool Elvis. To my surprise and delight, the tannedElvis was the first version to go! One guild member even told me she felt badthat she didn't get her first choice of the tan Elvis. That was an easy enoughfix. I told her to calibrate her oven at home and must stick him in for a coupleof hours and voila, that summer glow! Perhaps you'll enjoy going back intoyour own personal archives of early creations from clay to drawing and othermediums for a trip down memory lane.

If you haven't worked with MagicGlos™ but are thinking of giving a try, this is the essential primer for workingwith my resin. For anyone who already works with the product, you might finda new tip or two that takes your resin work to the next level. In my last e-blast newsletter, I shared the news about the latest formula of thenew FIMO Professional, and it's custom mixing system based on their purepigment range. Here's the link to the video Staedtler asked me do for the newclay based on my experience with it. If you haven't seen it yet, check it out at:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VI0nbzZSD0 Recently, the company surprised me yet again with the news that my work isgoing to be featured again, in the May 2015 issue of Just Jewelry magazine.I'm so enjoying playing with this new clay and as well as being incrediblyhonored to have my designs featured in another ad. I hope the image of the treasure tin I created below will inspire and encourageyou to try this amazing, artist quality clay! The treasure box lid is a SkinnerBlend veneer (made in the listed order) using: True Magenta, True Yellow,Ultramarine, Turquoise, and Lilac. The scalloped cane slices were also madefrom a bull's eye cane created from a rolled Skinner Blend sheet.

You may recognize the surface pattern from my "Paisley" texture stamp. Icreated a silk screen from the texture sheet. An alternative method to achievea look similar to this is to imprint the surface of a gradient sheet using blackstamp pad ink applied directly to the stamp. Tip: it's not always easy to get aperfect pattern when doing a silk screen or stamped surface. That's why I useblack paint or ink more than any other color. It's sooooo easy to fill in anylines that may not have come out well (or at all for that matter!). Use a fine tip,

permanent marker after baking (I like Staedtler's pens best for this). Just "fakeit until you bake it!"
