When work is complete in around nine months we will have a single state-wide pathology system. Some Women’s & Children’s Hospital laboratories (automated chemistry, haematology and transfusion medicine) will soon report through the new LIS. The first phase of migration will primarily affect clinicians ordering tests for WCH hospital and paediatric patients, and doctors receiving copies of those reports. KEY POINTS SUMMARY The new LIS produces A4 printed reports that look different from current reports Test results will be sent electronically as they are validated – they will not be held until all tests on a request are complete. This is not expected to impact turnaround times. Abnormal, Urgent and Critical test results will continue to be phoned or faxed to you. TIMING AND DELIVERY For clinicians receiving results electronically into medical practice software, or in hospitals via OACIS and EPAS results will be sent when validated. Paper reporting print schedules remain unchanged. Depending on result validation you may receive separate reports for a single order. No consolidated final report will be issued. TEST NAMES Some test names will change to align with RCPA-approved PITUS (Pathology Information, Terminology and Units Standardisation) naming conventions. SA Pathology is introducing a new Laboratory Information System (LIS) which will be implemented progressively during 2017.
