Introduction

The MSc in Human Resource Management and Organ­isational Behaviour (HRMOB_1,Programme is offered and managed by the blepartment of Management, Lingnan University. This fu ll-time programme began in September 2010. The normal duration for the programme is one year full time. The Programme provides students with an internationalised and highly interactive learning environment. It aims to equip students, entering either with business degrees or non-business degrees, with the necessary manage­ment competencies to pursue careers in human resource management and leadership.

Programme Structure

All students are required to take the following courses:

a. FIVE required courses: Management of Organisations and People Managing Ethically Teams for Learning Contemporary Human Resource Management Performance Management

b. Any FOUR of the following elective courses: Managing Conflict in Organisations Leadership in Organisations Comparative and Cross-cultural Management Strategic Management Managing Quality for People and Organisations Organisational Analysis and Change Business Decision Making with Software

Aims of the Department

We believe that every manager is essentially a human resource manager, and must work with people to get things done. Our department aims to prepare students for a future career in manage ent by providing them with opportunities to eaequire the knowledge, skills, and EJtJalifications required for hi -caliere executives. We help to equip students l< __ _,,,..~

with an inquisitive mind, and with the ability to engage in analytical thinking and make sound judgments. We also do our utmost to ensure that our students fully understand the role of managing people in achieving local and international competitiveness.

Learning Approach

•Action Learning Students are encouraged to learn actively through case studies, company visits, real life projects, intern­ships, participation in conferences, seminars and training workshops, etc.

•Cooperative Learning Students form base groups at the beginning of each course, where members help each other to engage in effective learning through mutual support, feed­back and encouragement.

•Service-Learning Service-Learning combines theoretical and practical learning experiences through community service. The service performed by students reinforces their academic study through the process of critical think­ing and self-reflection.

Our students actively participate in exchange programmes, their destinations include the USA, the UK, France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Korea, Thai land, Mexico, and Mainland China.

Summer Internship Programm

We encourage students to participate actively in Summer Internship Programmes, organized by the University, the Business Programmes Office, or the Department of Management. These internships provide opportunities for students to gain practical work experience related to human resource manage­ment. The organisations that our students have served include NWS Transport Limited, Hong Kong Airport Services Limited, Sing Tao News Corporation Limited,

Hong Kong Wing On l•iiiiiiiiiiiiiili!i~ Travel Service Ltd., ISS Facility Services, Asso­ciation of Retired Elderly, Wing Lung Bank, etc.

The Department of Management offers two programmes:

1. BBA (Hons) in HRM and

2. MSc in HRMOB

In addition, the department also offers a Minor in HRM programme and several Core Curriculum courses to all students in Lingnan.
