Mulligan) GEORGE GERSHWIN Rhapsody in Blue (arr. Mulligan) Praised by Lord Yehudi Menuhin as “one of the finest pianists I have ever had the pleasure of performing with”, Simon Mulligan made his own journey to the US after establishing a spectacular career in England, performing with London’s finest orchestras, appearing regularly at the Wigmore Hall and touring with the likes of Joshua Bell and Lynn Harrell. He now enjoys an extensive international career and records for the Steinway & Sons label. Beat the rush-hour and join Simon for some of his own riveting and virtuosic transcriptions of familiar classics from America’s finest composers. They perform songs by John Dowland written around the time of the Mayflower voyage, alongside works by two celebrated British composers of today, threaded together with a good dose of Schubert. 19:30 FRIDAY 17 JULY St. Andrew’s Church, Folkingham MARK PADMORE (tenor) MORGAN SZYMANSKI (guitar) BEETHOVEN Sonata No. 4 in C major, Op. 102 No. 1 BENJAMIN BRITTEN Cello Sonata in C major, Op. 65 LEONARD BERNSTEIN Three Meditations from Mass EDWARD ELGAR Cello Concerto in E minor, Op. 85 (arr. by Elgar for cello and piano) Following Yoanna Prodanova’s masterly performance of Bach’s 5 th and 6 th Cello Suites last year, she now teams up with the festival’s Artistic Director, Alissa Firsova, to showcase some of the cello’s most beautiful and inventive tunes. The highlight will be a special performance of Elgar’s beloved Cello Concerto in an arrangement (by Elgar himself) for cello and piano. 19:30 SATURDAY 18 JULY Caistor Methodist Church YOANNA PRODANOVA (cello) ALISSA FIRSOVA (piano) BEETHOVEN Clarinet Trio in Bb major, Op. 11 SAMUEL COLERIDGE-TAYLOR Clarinet Quintet in F sharp minor, Op. 10 EDWARD ELGAR Piano Quintet in A minor, Op. 84 Members of one of the world’s top orchestras, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra from the Netherlands, honour our festival for the very first time: The Camerata RCO enjoys a chamber music season of its own, being in high demand in festivals and concert series across the globe. Covering a wide spectrum of repertoire, from classical hits like Beethoven’s Clarinet Trio to Elgar’s Piano Quintet, they also thrive on playing lesser known gems.
