Beginning DCS (Industrial IT)
• AC460 Controllers
• Advabuild for Windows 2000,
Version 3.3
• Operate Process Portal B
The First Upgrade
(System 800xA):
• AC800M Controllers
• Windows XP and Server
2003
• Operate Process Portal A
Process Portal A:
• The Config Server and RTDS’
were replaced with the Aspect
Server and Connectivity Server
• The Graphics changed to VB
Reasoning behind PPA Upgrade:
• End of Lifespan for Servers
• End of Microsoft Support for
Windows 2000
Added First 800M Controller with
Local Operator Screen directly
connected to controller
This Controller was programed in
CBM (Control Builder M)
Advantages to programming in CBM:
• Quick Downloads
• Robust
Disadvantages:
• Hard to see the forest for the trees.
• Faceplates did not match PPA
faceplates
On the Picture Tools | Format
tab, you can create your own
frames and make picture
corrections such as adjusting
contrast and brightness or cropping the picture for just the
right look.
Things we would do differently and
had to change later:
• Use Explicit Addressing for devices
on the 800xA RNRP control ring
• Not putting AC460 and 800M
controllers on the same ring
Advantage of programming in the 800xA
system:
1. No longer constrained by 8 FCM’s to a
loop. In fact, now we can have a loop
(Function Diagram) multiple sheets
deep. This worked well for the control
of VFD’s via Profibus. The typical
mechanics of the data manipulation
was done on sheets 2 and 3, where as
the atypical control was on sheet 1.
Advantage of programming in the
800xA system:
2. You can use logic blocks from
various libraries
3. Easy to integrate Structured Text
programs with Function Diagrams
4. Easy to trouble shoot Function
Diagrams and Structured Text
programs
