INTRODUCTION
Light peak is the code name for the high
speed optical cable technology
It connects electronic devices to each other
Delivers bandwidth of 10Gb/s with a potentialto scale to 100Gb/s.

Features
y Provide a standard low cost optical based
interconnect
- support for key existing protocols(USB, HDMI, DP, PCIe , etc)
- scalable bandwidth, cost, power to support broad base for10+years
- support wide range of devices(handhelds , laptop , pcs)
Common optical i/o architecture for the next
decade and more- single flexible cable that can carry any platform i/o
- economies of scale from a single optical solution

VCSEL
The geometry of the dielectric mirrors providewavelength
Thickness of alternating layers d1 and d2 withrefractive indices of n1 and n2 if the following
equation is satisfied:
n1d1 + n2d2 = 1/2

CONTROLLER CHIP
Manages multiple protocol
It Identifies which protocol is to betransmitted
API helps to determine the different protocols
API places the FIS packets in memory.

Controller chip access the FIS packets from
memory
sends these Packets to destination over
Optical link
