readily available or items/equipment that has a

lasting benefit for students. Because some

awards receive partial funding, it is important that

applicants prioritize their requests. Recipients are

also required to report results or utilization of

funds by the end of the academic year to insure

consideration for future requests.

Application forms and instructions for completion

are located on the LIFE@UCF website http://

life.ucf.edu. NOTE: Submission deadlines are

different for each program. Separate committees

will be evaluating the applications. A recognition

Beginning Computer Science in the Classroom

(beginner level workshop—robot is

recommended for this session, but it is not

required)

October 8, 2016: This workshop will introduce K-

12 educators and content-specific teachers to

computer science basics. The workshop will

utilize Wonder Workshop's Dash and Lego

Mindstorm's EV3 and WeDo robots to cover

content and pedagogy necessary to bring

computer science to your school. Teachers will

receive grade level specific materials and have

the opportunity to discuss their school/district

implementation needs with the workshop

facilitator.

Teaching Mathematics through Robotics

November 10, 2016: This workshop will focus on

mathematics content and pedagogy for K-12

educators. Teachers will receive grade level

specific mathematics tasks aligned to state and

national standards. As this is not a beginner level

workshop, it is recommended that educators

participate in the Beginning Computer Science

in the Classroom professional development as a

pre-requisite to this workshop.

Teaching Science through Robotics

November 29, 2016: This workshop will focus on

science content and pedagogy for K-12

educators. Teachers will receive grade level

specific science inquiry tasks aligned to state and

national standards. As this is not a beginner level

workshop, it is recommended that educators

participate in the Beginning Computer Science

in the Classroom professional development as a

pre-requisite to this workshop.

Robotics Interventions for Special Populations

December 12, 2016: This workshop focuses on

remediating core STEM content for vulnerable

populations through the use of robotics – a

format meaningful and accessible to all learners.

Teachers will receive grade level specific STEM

content tasks aligned to state and national

standards. As this is not a beginner level

workshop, it is recommended that educators

participate in the Beginning Computer Science

in the Classroom professional development as a

conversations have resulted in a proliferation of

programs utilizing a variety of pedagogical

models focused on practicing professionals

undertaking research and development in the

workplace. Grounded by critical friend theory,

contributions from scholar practitioners in

Australia, Canada, England, Ireland, Israel, New

Zealand, USA, and Wales address trends and

themes in international professional practice

doctoral programs. These include how

knowledge is produced, organized, developed

and used; doctoral program design; program

capstone models; insider- outsider

collaborative research partnerships; and

collaborative ways to work across national

boundaries in different settings.
