JobDescription:

TheIndianaBiosciencesResearchInstitute(IBRI)isaggressivelypursuingitsvisiontobecomealeadingcenterofdiscoveryandtranslationalscienceintheareasofmetabolicdisease,obesity,diabetes,andnutrition.TheIBRIisinitiatingitsresearchmissionin2016andoverthenextfivetoeightyears,itplanstogrowitsresearch-focusedorganizationtomorethan200researchersandsupportingstaff.TheIBRIiscurrentlyoperatingin25,000squarefeetoftemporaryofficeandresearchspaceandanticipatesmovingtoalarger,state-of-the-artresearchfacilityinthe16TechInnovationCommunityontheNorthwestsideofdowntownIndianapolisin2018.

TheLifeSciencesDataScientististhefirsthireintheAppliedDataSciencesgroupatIBRIandreportstotheDirectorofAppliedDataSciences.YourprimaryresponsibilityinthisrolewillbetoassistindevelopingtheAppliedDataScienceCoreLaboratoryatIBRIthroughdirectprojectidentification,initiation,anddata/computationalanalysisworkwithIBRI’scorporateandgovernmentstakeholdersandprofessionalresourcesandservicesproviders.Inthisrole,youwillhavetheopportunitytobeexposedtothebreadthofpossibleproblems,lifesciences/healthdata,andtechnologiestodriveprojectsattheforefrontofinnovationinIndiana’srobustlifesciencesindustry.

RolesandResponsibilities:

• DataIntegration,Analysis,andVisualization–useyourexpertiseworkingwithIBRI’spartnersandserviceprovidersonspecificapplieddatascienceprojectstomeettheproject’sdefinedtimelineanddeliverables.

• ProjectIdentification/Proposals–workwiththeDirectorofAppliedDataSciencestoidentifynewpotentialprojectopportunitieswiththeIBRI’sstakeholdersandrefinetheseideasintospecificprojectproposals.

• ExploreNewTechnologies–explorenewdataintegrationandmachinelearningtechnologiesthatwilldriveinnovationwithinfutureprojects.

• IBRIScientistSupport–understandtheinternaldataaccess,integration,analysis,andvisualizationneedsofIBRIprimaryinvestigatorsandtheirteamsanduseyourskillstosupporttheirscientificprojectsandthemissionofIBRI.

• SpecialProjects–basedonyourskills,experience,andinterests,workonspecialtechnologyprojects(opendata,datasecurity,visualization,datascience,…)thatareneededtosupportthemissionandgrowthoftheIBRI.

Requirements:

• B.S.degreeinascientific-,computer-ortechnology-relateddiscipline.• 3+years’experienceworkingwithcomplexlifesciencesorhealth-relateddatasets.• 3+years’experienceworkingwithcomputational,machinelearning,andvisualizationtools.• Experiencewithdatascience,statisticalanalysis,datamining,andvisualizationtools.• Experiencewithmultipleprogrammingand/orscriptinglanguages.

• Demonstratescreativityandingenuityinnewandbetterwaystoderiveandvisualizeactionableinsightsfromcomplexdatasets.

• Provenabilitytorapidlylearnnewdomainareas,problems,ortechnologies,especiallyinascientificallycomplexenvironment.

• Interest,excitementandabilitytostaycurrentwithchangingtrendsindatascienceandinformatics.

• Self-motivated,strongcommunicationskills,focusondeliveringresults,andabilitytoworkindependentlyinadynamicresearchenvironment.
