theideaseemedalittlefar-fetchedinaworldthatwas

andtabletrevolution.Thepracticeofusingsmartmobile
devicestodoeverythingrelatedtoourwork,personaland
socialliveswasstillfarfromamainstreamreality.
Fast-forwardto2014andsomuchhaschangeditsasifdecadesratherthanameresixyears-have
passed.Seventy-sixpercentofAustraliansnowusea
smartphoneand45%useatabletiandtherearemore

startedonthisresearchjourneythatswhatwe
believedtoo-andthatonlyasmallpercentageofthe
populationwereincontroloftheirblendedworkand
leisuretime.Buttheresultsshowthissimplyisnottrue.
Australiansacrossallagegroupsanddemographics
aremastersoftheirtechnologyandtheirtime.
Workandplayarecompletelyinterchangeable
nomatterwhattimeitis,wemaximiseeveryspare
moment,whetheritsforlifeadmin,workorleisure.
30%ofAussiesarecheckingworkemailsondevicesat
homebeforetheyleaveforwork,23%aredoingwork
activitieswhiletheyaresocialisingwiththeirfriends.
44%aredoingworkactivitiesafterworkathomeand
38%areworkingontheweekend.
Butallthatworkisnotattheexpenseofourleisure.
53%ofAustraliansplaywhileatwork,dippinginand

Ourtechnologyhasbecomeaconstantextension
ofus,whereverweareacompletedeparture

wedo.Twothirdsofpeopleuseproductivityapps

Werestartingtoseesocietyquestionthecultural
normsaroundpresentee-ismtheneedtobehighly
visibleatworktosignifythatyouarecontributing.
Flexible,collegiatewaysofworkingareerodingthe
commandandcontrolstylerelationshipsbetween
managersandteammembersthathavebeen
commonplaceintheworkplaceuntilnow.Asaresult,
wellstarttoseegreateremphasisontrust,autonomy,
andaccountabilityinwork,asexempliedbyexible

Thefutureworkspacewillevolvetoprovideamixof
