Thank you for Begin; its helpedme meet staff and new people. Thanks so much for all who servewith Begin. Kelly Oberlin, March 2010 25

    I am my own

    testimony that children

    do understand the messag

    of salvation and their liv

    can be impacted even at

    such an early age.

    ob Bugh, Senior Pastor

If Go s Spirit is not in our planning an processesall our plans an programs ill not begin to make thekin of eternal i erence that changes the li es an

estinies of men an omen, boys an girls.

It is that time of year at Wheaton Bible Church whenwe return, renew, refresh, regroup, and recommit. It is time to push our ministry restart buttons.

Actually, restart is the wrong word. Our ministries have neverstopped. While I was on my two-month sabbatical and many of youwere vacationing, our ministry teams were planning, studying, rehearsing, and in every way preparing for the ministry year thatis now upon us. So, to be more accurate, our ministries reallyare pushing their forward or even fast forward buttons.

We do so after completing a thorough ministry-planning process, begun last spring and aimed primarily at aligningall that we do with our mission as a church. So, we are ready.

The plans, people, and priorities are in place. But wait

I am reminded that its possible for us to be organized but notblessed . We can make detailedeven clever and creativeplans. But if Gods Spirit is not in our planning and processes, if we arenot surrendered to His will and His purpose, all our plans and

programs will not begin to make the kind of eternal difference thatchanges the lives and destinies of men and women, boys and girls.

It is His work we are doing in and through this church, and for thatreason we must depend on His guidance and submit our plans and

preparations to His hand. James 4:1316 puts it all in perspective:

Now listen, you who say, Today or tomorrow wewill go to this or that city, spend a year there, carryon business a nd make money. Why, you do not evenknow what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while andthen vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, If it is theLords will, we will live and do this or that. As itis, you boast and brag. All such boasting is evil.

So we commit this year to Him. Walking by the Spirit andrecognizing that He is Lord of All. Asking Him to lead usas a church. Seeking to be wise and creative stewards of

His resources, completely relying on Him, trusting in His provision, and resting in His willand giving Him the gloryfor all that He accomplishes in and through our church andits ministries this year.

    In His matchless grace,

    Rob Bugh, Senior Pastor

It began with the vision of a groupof WBC singles, and with the help of Jeff Walser,Pastor of Adult Discipleship and Development.

The class meets at 11:15 every Sunday morning to studyand discuss the Bible as members seek to navigatelife from Gods perspective and pursue His missionfor their lives. Jeff, Community Life Pastor for Singles,

Jonathon Ziman, and others from within the group

    singleness an wB .

LIFe: o i Go become a part of your journey as a single?

KI : Singleness has been i cultfor me to accept. cceptance iscoming only through Go s gracioustransformation of my heart. Through

is continue faithfulness, e isculti ating my trust in im in this

area of my life too. I no amresting, kno ing that here Iam to ay, right no , at this mo-ment in time, is exactly Go splace for me. I ha e peace anhope in my heart: For I knothe plans I ha e for you, saysthe Lord . They are plans forgoo an not for isaster,to gi e you a future an ahope (Jeremiah 29:11, NLT).

LIFe: o has wB becomepart of that journey?

GPS each eek. en so, the Spirat ork, coalescing us into a fami There is a beautiful intimacy presin GPS. It is here e can embracone another; are transparent anaccountable; an support, trust, encourage, an lo e one anotherin this season an at this time. n

I am grateful to say that since that time, God hasbecome my Comforter, Counselor, Shelter, and Rock.He has shown me over and over that He will notabandon me or forsake me and that Hes there in thedetails. In my self-reliance, none of this was part of my

plan. But Gods plan is so much better. His Word tellsme that He directs the steps of the godly. He delightsin every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, theywill never fall, for the L ord holds them by the hand(Psalm 37:2324, NLT). What an amazing comfort toknow that as I continue my journey, God is holdingmy hand. Though I may yet stumble, He wont let go!

I found WBC at the very moment I most desperatelyneeded to, and I havent looked back since. WBC

has become my family in this journey. Its the placeI belong and am accepted and loved. I have beenfed and tended to in so many loving ways at WBC,thanks to the teaching, resources, and ministries

such as DivorceCare, Single Purpose, GPS, and myCommunity Group.

I dont believe you can reach 35-plus and be singlewhether through divorce, death of a spouse, or simplynever marryingwithout having faced some serious

pain and suffering, heartbreak, or rejection. As aresult, singles can be a little extra self-protective,to say the least. The big thing Pastor Jeff has taughtus in GPS is to keep engaging and connecting. Peopleare messy. Relationships are messy, but we have toroll up our sleeves and stick with them because thatswhere Christ can truly change and heal us. As a result,I see the singles at WBC sticking it out and asking forhelp in making the often dif cult choice to connect.

Singles are nding a place at GPS and courage tobelong and to grow as God does His work in them.Thats a pretty big thing! n

    Fall 2010 | LIFE at Wheat n Bible C

Last year was an exciting year in WomensMinistry! We made a lot of positive changes.Place4You (P4Y) began offering multitrack Bible studies on differenttopics with varied time requirements so that women could makechoices that addressed their particular circumstances and limitations.P4Y enrollment grew by about 15 percent, but even more exciting waswhat we heard from women: God opened my heart. I was reluctantto come to this study but have been truly blessed and felt welcome andencouraged every week. Hes continued to heal my broken heart.

We made big changes in the womens retreat in response to suggestions. We moved it to a local venue in Oak Brook, lowered costs, and addedthe option of not staying overnight, hoping this would make it easier forwomen to attend. It did. Comments from the retreat included I lovedgetting to know more women and My highlight was to have touchedsomeone elses life by listening and providing a shoulder for someone else.

We also piloted a brand-new ministry called Moms Together/KidsTogether for moms of children ages birth through fth grade. Moms getto be with other moms for a hot breakfast and a relevant presentation andgroup discussion while their children participate in the Kids Together

programa structured, active time of songs, crafts, games, a nd stories. This year our moms heard about practical organizational tips for thehome, got to question a panel of veteran moms on hot topics, and learnedabout a variety of other subjects relevant to their everyday lives. Probablythe comment we heard most often was, I learned that Im not alone.

As you look ahead to a year full of activities, I encourage you tryone or more of these Womens Ministry options that ts well with yourlife and your schedule.

Womens Ministry desires to be a place where we live out the oneanothers of the New Testament: love one another, instruct oneanother, carry one anothers burdens, be kind and compassionateto one another, encourage one another, and pray for one another.

We also want to be a place that welcomes any mom, sister, coworker, neighbor, or friend. A place where a woman wont feel like a stranger

but will feel a welcoming embrace. Ultimately, we want to provideopportunities for every woman to know Jesus and His forgiveness,His grace, and His love.

    Join us this coming year,

Lilia o riguez, director of hil rens Ministry

at Iglesia el Pueblo, kno s the i erenceaccepting hrist can make in a chil s life.It happene in her o n life.

Lilia says, I learned who our Lord Jesus Christwas at the age of 5 and accepted Him as my onlySavior even at such a young age. I recall mygrandmother taking me to church. I loved learningall the stories about Jesus from Sunday school.

On one of those Sunday mornings, Lilias teachertaught how great Gods love was for Lilia and thatbecause of this love, He sent His only Son to diefor her on the cross.

My tears then were of pain and amazement at howhuge a sacri ce God had made for me. I realized thatno one could possibly love me as much as He does.

Lilia lifted up her tiny arms and said, I do wantto invite You into my heart, Jesus.

Her teacher then replied, From now on, Jesus iswith you, and there is nothing that can separate

you from Him and His love for you.

Ever since that day, the center of Lilias life has been Jesus. To her, nothing in this life is more importantthan serving Him and living for Him. And it is becauseof this life experience that Lilia holds strongly to herbelief and passion to share the Gospel with children.I am my own testimony that children do understandthe message of salvation and their lives ca n beimpacted even at such an early age.

Lilias passion to work with children continues to

amaze her as she enjoys watching them grow notonly in height but also in their true understandingof Gods Word.

Working with children comes with greatresponsibility, and I could never do it alone,Lilia says. She can see God at work in ChildrensMinistry as year after year volunteers dedicatetheir time to serving in this ministry.

Iglesia del Pueblo has grown tremendously overthe last few years, bringing more and more adultsand children who are eager to hear about Jesus.

Sometimes we dont have enough volunteersto help us with all the activities and courses wewould like to cover during Sunday school, Liliasays. We also see the need to develop a child-care

program during our monthly Married CouplesService with Pastor Guerra. Often parentscannot attend this special service because theydo not have someone to be with their children.

We invite you to come and be a part of thisfruitful group of people who dedicate their livesto serving God by telling children about theamazing true story of the Lord Jesus Christ. n

Curious about c MMUNITY GR UpS?

Youve probably heard a lot of talk here about Community Groups.Wondering what all the buzz is about? Let me explain.

ommunity Groups ( Gs) consist of 812 in i i uals an couples homeet together in homes for the purpose of challenging one anotherin our missionto lo e Go , to gro together, an to reach the orl . They meet at least t ice a month, for roughly an hour or hour an a half,to learn from the Bible, pr ay together, an encourage one another.

we see Gs as groups on the mo enot just holy hu les but placeshere people gro an learn an then ser e together. That might

mean ser ing together in areFest, a opting a refugee family, orintentionally reaching out together to Muslim neighbors.

ery G has a lea er, not necessarily the person ho lea s the iscussioneach eek but a person ho is traine through wB programs such asLea er Launch. n e ery G also has a Shepher , a person ho o ersees acertain number of groups an o ers irection an support on a regular basis.
