Well, it’s already September. The mornings are a bit cooler than they have

been and I’m already noticing some color changes on the trees. The change of

season is just around the corner. At our house, we have seen an abundance of

deer this year. It hasn’t been unusual to see a group of three or more coming

out of the woods and across our yard.

This is a great time of year to do a fall version of spring cleaning or work

on an enjoyable outdoor space for the fall. Perhaps you’ve been thinking

about an outdoor barbeque area, a nice outdoor fireplace or pit. Also, take advantage of the nice temperatures

and do something fun before the task of raking leaves overtakes this opportunity.

As we all remember, September 11 marks the 10-year anniversary of the assault on our nation. It was one of

those events that everyone seems to remember where they were when they heard the news. Let it be a reminder

to us all to continue to pray for our nation and for those who defend it.

Homeowners Challenging Property TaxesOne in four homeowners say that at one time or another, they have attempted to reduce their property taxes by challenging the tax-assessed value of their homes.

And the majority who did so say that they were successful in lowering their tax bills, according to a nationwide survey by FindLaw.com.

As home values have declined as a result of the housing crisis, some homeowners feel that the tax-assessed value of their homes -- which is the basis for calculating their property taxes -- may not accurately reflect actual market conditions. Homeowners may file an appeal or challenge with their local tax authority in hopes of reducing their assessments, and in turn, their property tax bills.

According to the FindLaw.com survey, 24 percent of homeowners say they have challenged their assessments at some point during their home ownership. When a challenge was filed, survey respondents said it was successful in lowering their property tax bills in approximately three-quarters of those instances. most often, the net reduction in their annual property tax bills was between 1 and 4 percent.

newsShortsWhat you Should Know About Strategic DefaultIf you owe more on your home than its current market value, you may feel tempted to walk away from a bad investment, even if you can afford to make the monthly mortgage payment.

But global information services leader experian says when considering strategic default, you should keep several factors in mind:

* Defaulting on your mortgage is the second most damaging thing you can do to your credit, even if you continue to pay your other bills. Only bankruptcy will affect your credit score more adversely than foreclosure.

* Foreclosure remains on your credit report for seven years. During that time, securing other credit at reasonable terms and rates will be very difficult, if not impossible.

* Potential employers are looking at credit reports. In fact, 60 percent now check applicants’ credit reports, according to an article in the Washington Times. By impacting your credit, a strategic default may affect your ability to get a job.

* Last year, Fannie mae, the government-controlled mortgage giant, said it would implement a policy to prohibit strategic defaulters from getting a new Fannie mae backed mortgage for seven years from the date of foreclosure.

* Finally, in some cases, the debt that foreclosure "erases" may be recorded as income, which means you will have to pay taxes on it.

Home improvement expert Gordon Blickle notes that painting is a growing trend in decorating. "In today's market, homeowners are staying in their homes longer and redecorating more," he says. When decorating, homeowners want simple, low cost, but dramatic home improvements to renew and personalize their space. As a result, Blickle notes, "changing and upgrading room colors has become one of the hottest decor trends."

But with all this decorating, exposure to chemical fumes has opened the door for a new wave of smart paints, caulks and spackling that please the nose as well as the eye.

decorating with a clean conscience Traditional paints create chemical fumes that can harmfully affect people - and the environment. Chemical fumes can affect the earth's ozone layer and increase hazards to those with breathing problems. eliminating these fumes to protect air quality is a hot-button issue for lawmakers. Local, state and federal laws now limit chemicals that affect air quality, and legislators have helped reduce volatile chemicals in paints and coatings dramatically in the past decade.

Choose healthier, zero-VoC products In most paints, caulks and spackling, the drying process means chemicals like ammonia and mineral spirits evaporate into the air. They can irritate many people and even prove dangerous for small children and people with asthma and chronic respiratory conditions.

The longer they air-dry, the more paint fumes escape into the air your family breathes. If you clean them immediately, you can use water; waiting means either using smelly mineral spirits, or throwing them away.

The removal of vOCs and odors from paints, caulks and other painting necessities creates a healthier and more pleasant way to decorate. Painting projects have never smelled so sweet. (ArA)

As an expert in Leadership Development, I have come to realize that there is something better than 20/20 vision. This type of vision as I call it is: "Possible vision". you see 20/20 vision only allows you to see what is, but Possible vision, Pv, allows you to see what can be possible.

Let me illustrate to clarify my point. Imagine that I have an apple seed in my hand and I ask

you to tell me what you see. your response would be that you see an apple seed. now, if I ask you to see the seed with "Possible vision", you may tell me that you see an apple orchard, apple sauce, or baskets of apples, etc. I think you get the point. So, what is the difference? 20/20 vision can only see what is present, but “Possible vision” gives you the opportunity to see what is possible or what the present can be-come.

How does one develop Possible vision? Here are three principles:

1. Insight-discern the power of the “seed”2. Imagination-dare to dream and create3. Intentional-believe until you see

It is very important to protect your sight by get-ting an eye exam. I believe it is even more im-portant to protect your vision by utilizing the power within you to see what can become.

The sunny, cooler weather of autumn is perfect for many vegetables. With increased rainfall and temperatures ranging between 60 and 80 degrees in the day and higher than 40 at night, your plants suffer less, increasing your likelihood of good harvest. you can even cope with frost; some hardy vegetables can thrive without frost protection, and covering less resistant plants when frost threatens can keep them thriving.

The secrets of successful fall planting don't differ much from the techniques you've used during high season. Cool crops will need at least six hours of sun daily, ample water and a steady supply of much-needed nutrients. you can get a jump-start by planting transplants. Seed germination of cool crops during late summer requires much attention to detail. Transplants are a quicker, easier route to ensure success.

Bonnie Plants, the largest producer of vegetables and herbs in north America, offers some quick tips for picking the right plants for your fall garden:

* Choose fast-growing, leafy cool crops like broccoli, Swiss chard, lettuce, kale, spinach, collards and arugula. Leafy vegetables are actually

harder to grow in the summer, when the heat can cause them to "bolt," forming flowers and seeds. Bolting leaves edible portions tasting bitter. you could choose to plant two rounds of these vegetables, in spring and again in late summer.

* Don't delay. Ideally, you should plant your fall crops before the end of August, although if you miss that window, it doesn't mean you can't still have a successful fall harvest. It just might take more time and ingenuity.

* Pick a place. your existing garden is the perfect place to plant cool weather crops. remember, frost flows downhill like water, so spots at the top of a slope or in south-facing locations will remain warmest.

* you can also plant your fall crops in raised beds, which are easy to cover when frost threatens, or in pots that can be brought inside when temperatures dip too low.

* Know how they grow. Pay close attention to "days to maturity" information listed on plant tags. you'll want to give plants enough time to produce before killing frost arrives.

* Good gardening practices will get your fall garden growing. Loosen soil before you plant and mix in some all-natural fertilizer, like Bonnie Plants Herb and vegetable Plant Food. made from soybean oilseed extract, this food contains 150,000 nutritional and vital organic compounds
