This year’s summer reading program

for children, teens and adults kicks off

on June 15 and runs through August

26. There promises to be plenty of fun

and interesting programs and activities

for everyone! Be sure to check out the

detailed schedules included in this

issue for specific program and event

The Michigan Activity Pass offers cardholders

at more than 400 participating Michigan

libraries a one-day pass to explore – at no

cost – hundreds of Michigan’s state parks,

historic sites, cultural attractions,

campgrounds and recreation areas simply by

visiting their local library or the Michigan

Activity Pass website.

The Michigan Activity Pass program is a new

component for the third-year of MI Big Green

Gym, a partnership between Blue Cross Blue

Shield of Michigan, MRPA and the DNR that

encourages Michigan residents to use the

state’s parks and recreation facilities to

increase physical activity. The Michigan

Activity Pass enables library cardholders to

print a pass, either from home or their local

Fridays from 2-4 PM for some free Tech Time device

help.

These sessions will take place in the first-floor

computer training room at HFCL. For these sessions,

please bring USB and/or power cables for your device.

The Bellini Opera Theatre will perform selections

from Verdi’s La Traviata on Thursday, July 16 at

7:00 pm in the Henry Ford Centennial Library

Auditorium. This performance is free and open

to the public!

The performance will feature Sherrie Grieve,

soprano, as Violetta; Dino Valle, baritone, as

Germont, with Martin Mandelbaum at the piano.

eating bugs. Julie Lesnik, Ph.D.,

assistant professor of anthropology at

Wayne State University, will talk about

the evolution of the human diet and

how insects, especially crickets, are a

valuable source of protein and should

be cultivated for sustainable life on

earth.

Recipes will be provided. Samples will

fountain for storytime. Join us

welcome, but storytime is

geared for children, 2-6 years
