This year’s summer reading program
for children, teens and adults kicks off
on June 15 and runs through August
26. There promises to be plenty of fun
and interesting programs and activities
for everyone! Be sure to check out the
detailed schedules included in this
issue for specific program and event
information. The wrap-up party will
take place at HFCL on Wednesday,
August 26 from 6-8 pm.
The theme for the children’s program is
“Every Hero Has a Story,” with
superhero – themed programs and
events throughout the summer. See
page 4 for a detailed schedule.
The teen program, “Unmasked,” will
feature gaming, movies and other
superhero and comics - re la ted
activities that will take place on
Tuesday evenings throughout the
program. See page 5 for a detailed
schedule of activities.
The adult program, “Escape the
Ordinary,” will offer a variety of diverse
programming intended to broaden the
horizons and experiences with a variety
of fun and relaxed activities. See page 3
for a full schedule of the adult activities
planned during summer reading!

The Michigan Activity Pass offers cardholders
at more than 400 participating Michigan
libraries a one-day pass to explore – at no
cost – hundreds of Michigan’s state parks,
historic sites, cultural attractions,
campgrounds and recreation areas simply by
visiting their local library or the Michigan
Activity Pass website.
The Michigan Activity Pass program is a new
component for the third-year of MI Big Green
Gym, a partnership between Blue Cross Blue
Shield of Michigan, MRPA and the DNR that
encourages Michigan residents to use the
state’s parks and recreation facilities to
increase physical activity. The Michigan
Activity Pass enables library cardholders to
print a pass, either from home or their local

These sessions will take place in the first-floor
computer training room at HFCL. For these sessions,
please bring USB and/or power cables for your device.

The Bellini Opera Theatre will perform selections
from Verdi’s La Traviata on Thursday, July 16 at
7:00 pm in the Henry Ford Centennial Library
Auditorium. This performance is free and open
to the public!
The performance will feature Sherrie Grieve,
soprano, as Violetta; Dino Valle, baritone, as
Germont, with Martin Mandelbaum at the piano.

eating bugs. Julie Lesnik, Ph.D.,
assistant professor of anthropology at
Wayne State University, will talk about
the evolution of the human diet and
how insects, especially crickets, are a
valuable source of protein and should
be cultivated for sustainable life on
earth.
Recipes will be provided. Samples will

STORYTIMES STORYTIMES STORYTIMES
Storytime (Ages 2-6): Weather
permitting we’ll meet by the
fountain for storytime. Join us
for stories, songs, & rhymes.
All family members are
welcome, but storytime is
geared for children, 2-6 years
old. In the event of rain,
storytime will be held indoors.

Mother Goose Storytime
(Ages 6-23 months): Babies &
toddlers are invited to their
first literature experiences

the first date of the program.

4. Enter number of hours read or
events attend-ed. (REQUIRED)
5. Choose hours or event
