The central library of Madison opened in 1965. All buildingsystems are past end-of-life usage and the current buildingis not adiquate for 21st-century library operations.

The city of Madison cares about it’s sidewalk presenceand is looking to enhance the architectural expressivenessin the downtown area.“Madisonians like to think of ourselves as progressive, but where’s the proof?”

Signature Architecture

The city intends that the library operate in symbiosis with commercial use, benefitting financially and culturally whilesupporting local economy. The RFP calls for any amountof light commercial space attached to a phased 100,000square foot “library condominium”

Urban Diversity

The city intends to pursue LEED certification in the designof its new library space. Proposals should demonstratesensitivity to daylight, passive solar, and water management.
