10 cuestiones fundamentales

Baryon: A hadron made from three quarks. The proton (uud) and the neutron (udd) are both baryons. They also contain additional quark-antiquak pairs

4

Page 5: Lhc

The Standard Model answers many of the questions about the structura and stability of matter with six types of quarks, six types of leptons, and four forces.

But the Standard model is not complete; trere are many unanswered questions.

Higgs boson: The carrier particle or quantum excitation of the additional force needed to introduce particle masses in the Standard model. Not yet observed

Atlas:Atlas is a particle physics experiment in the Large Hadron Collider at the CERN laboratory. It will explore the fundamental nature of matter and the basic forces that shape our Universe.

Originally Atlas was an acronym for A Toroidal LCH ApparatuS.

The Atlas detector consists of four major components

Inner Detector: Measures the momentum of each charged particle

Calorimeters: Measure the energies carries by the particles.

Muon Spectrometer: Identifies and measures the momenta of muons.

Magnet System: Bends charged particles for momentum measurement.
