“Sensational” Emi is inspired by Tina!!THE smash-hit UK tour of a new musical, inspired by the music, life and times of Ike and Tina Turner, which caused a sensation in the West End, is visiting Hanley’s Regent Theatre in July.
‘Soul Sister’ stars Emi Wokoma as Tina. Her vocal and dance talents have attracted huge critical and public acclaim since the production’s launch, and she has subsequently garnered nominations for the Evening Standard Theatre Awards and the Whatsonstage.com awards.
The brand-new musical features all the classic Tina Turner hits, including ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It?’, ‘Proud Mary’, ‘Private Dancer’, ‘River Deep, Mountain High’ and, of course, ‘Simply The Best’.
The story follows the highs, lows, passions and heartbreak of Ike and Tina as their careers soared, whilst their marriage cumbled, ultimately leading to
Tina being catapulted to superstardom and heralded as one of the greatest solo artists of all time.
Tina Turner is, arguably, one of music’s greatest-ever live performance and recording artist ‘divas’, and was named ‘one of the greatest singers of all time’ by Rolling Stone Magazine.
She has won nine Grammy Awards and an induction into the Rock and Rock Hall
of Fame, amongst many other accolades and honours.
Emi Wokoma’s stage-credits include ‘Hairspray’ at the Shaftesbury Theatre; as one of The Ronettes in ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ at Birmingham Repertory Theatre; in ‘The Bacchae’, directed by John Tiffany for the National Theatre of Scotland; and in Trevor Nunn’s ‘Porgy and Bess’ at The Savoy.
Chris Tummings will star alongside her as Ike Turner.
You can enjoy ‘Soul Sister’ from Monday, July 8th, to Saturday, July 13th, at 7.30pm, with 2.30pm matineee performances on Wednesday and Saturday.
Tickets (priced at £10-£29.50) can be purchased from The Regent’s Box Office on 0844 871 7649 or online at www.atgtickets.com/stokecom/stoke
