The Louisiana Purchase

The Louisiana Purchase was one of the largest real estate deals in history. The United States Purchased the Louisiana territory from France at a price of fifteen million, or approximately four cents an acre. The Louisiana doubled the size of the United States and opened up North America to Westward expansion.

LEWIS AND CLARK

Lewis was Jefferson’s secretary. Clark was a good leader. They were both amazing at exploring. Lewis was born on August 1st 1774 and on October 11th, 1809 he died. Clark was born on August 18th 1770 and died on September 1st,1838.They where two different men, but they still worked together.

GOALS

A couple of Thomas Jefferson’s goals were, map the rivers, make friends with the Native Americans, open the West to trade, and find new animals and plants.

SUPPLIES

Their supplies included scientific equipment, camping gear, clothing, weapons, and food. They also brought gifts for the Native Americans they would meet.

ROUTE OF EXPLORATION

They started at St. Louis. They went up the Missouri River, crossed the Rockies, down the Columbia River, and on to the Pacific Ocean.

SACAGAWEA

Another person of the group was Sacagawea, who served as an interpreter, guide, and translator.

PLANTS AND ANIMALS

Lewis and Clark caught and studied many plants and animals . A few of the them are, pelicans, Prairie dogs, Pronghorn Antelope, Roosevelt elk, Purple Coneflower, Silver Sage, Sky Rocket, and Slender Sage.

SEAMAN

Seaman was Lewis’ dog. Seaman was courageous, strong, and never gave up. Seaman was a great addition to the crew.

PEOPLE

A few of the Sergeants and Privates were Charles Floyd, Patrick Gass, John Ordway, Nathaniel Pryor, William Bratton, John Colter, Pierre Cruzatte, and John Collins.

THOMAS JEFFERSON

Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13 1743 and he was the president from 1801 to 1809. He died on July 4th 1826.

CONCLUSION

Lewis and Clark went on a fantastic journey! They were two different people but worked together. They are a good example to our lives to keep pushing on!!!
