    WearewritingtodaytoadviseyouthatyouareoperatinginNewBrunswickwithoutasociallicense.

    Furthermore,forthosecompanieswhoselicensewasrenewedafterNovember2012,weconsideryour

    currentexplorationlicenseinvalid.

    Inwinter2011,petitionstobanshalegasexplorationandproductiontotalingnearly20,000signatures

    weredeliveredtotheNewBrunswickLegislature.OnNovember27,2012,groupsrepresentingawide

    cross-sectionofbothruralandurbanNewBrunswickersralliedinfrontoftheLegislatureanddemanded

    ourgovernmenttoimmediatelystopongoingshalegasexploration,thegrantingofanynewlicenses,

    andtherenewalofexistingones.ThesedemandswererestatedinanopenlettertoEnergyandMines

    MinisterCraigLeonarddeliveredonFebruary282013,whichwassignedbyorganizationsrepresentingmorethan50,000NewBrunswickers.

    Asevidencedbytheresultsofseveralpolls,andasindicatedbycontinuedpublicprotestsandthe

    increasingnumberofmunicipalitiesthathavepassedbansonfracking,mostNewBrunswickersdonot

    wantexplorationandfurtherdevelopmentofshalehydrocarbons.Furthermore,thecurrentprovincial

    governmenthasneitheramandatenortheconsentoftheaboriginalandnon-aboriginalpeopleofNew

    Brunswicktoallowhydrocarbonextractioninourshaleformations.

    IfyourlicensewasrenewedafterourpetitionofNovember2012,andsincetherenewalwasonlymade

    possiblebyaquestionableamendmenttoourOilandGasAct,pleasenotethatwedonotacceptas

    validyourcurrentexplorationlicense,andneitherwillademocraticgovernment,formedafterthe

    provincialelectionsnextyear,grantitsconversiontoalease.

    We,thepeopleofNewBrunswick,donotwanttobecomeasacrificezoneforextremeenergy

    extraction.Wehavecometorealize,throughscientificandeconomicstudies,thatminingforshalegas

    andoilisdetrimentaltohumanprosperityhereandanywhereintheworld.Asamatteroffact,several

    leadingorganizations(e.g.InternationalEnergyAgency,WorldBank)havewarnedthatwemustkeep

    unconventionalfossilfuelsinthegroundtoavoidcatastrophicclimatechange.

    Givenalltheabove,weurgeyoutoreconsideryourplansandstopanyfurtherexplorationanddrilling

    inthisprovinceuntilproperpublicconsultationhastakenplace.
