MESSAGE FROM Chief Executive

Welcome to our Annual Report 2016-17. Overall this was a year of excellent achievements for Qarshi Foundation.

The working of Qarshi Foundation is aligned with its mission and vision. Healthcare Entities of QF performed well during the year and number of beneficiaries increased by 30% in comparison of last financial year of 2015-16.

We supported our local partners working for the sustainable development in the field of health, education and environ-ment. Wellbeing of community remained in focus and for the welfare of underprivileged people of Pakistan our Monetary Assistance Programme (MAP) made a great social impact in social sustainable development. We supported the community and institutions with Rs. 78 Million through MAP.

We truly believe in our mission and we will expand our services for the cause of healthy, educated and happier Paki-stan.

private public partnership. More than 70% of population depends on the natural

medicines. In the year 1998, Qarshi Foundation started to receive application from the

local area of Qarshi Model Complex surroundings, approximately 40 villages around the

complex, to establish Qarshi Foundation Dispensary. On the basis of need assessment,

first Qarshi Foundation Dispensary (QFD) was established in 1998 at Qarshi Model

complex. Later on, further dispensaries were established after receiving requests from

local residents of Lahore, Bahawalpur, Islamabad, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Lora Lai

Baluchistan,

Kotli Sattian Azad Kashmir and Multan regions. Qarshi Foundation Dispensaries were

also established in jails in collaboration with IG Prisons Office, Punjab for the welfare of

prisoners in order to provide quality health service. First Jail dispensary was established

Q uality healthcare facilities in remote rural areas are part of the main objectives of Qarshi

Foundation. A need based survey was conducted in remote area of Muridke covering the

suburbs of Qarshi Model Complex. It was found that there was no such healthcare facility which

could provide even the basic maternal and neonatal healthcare services to the community of

approximately 50 villages. After the survey and requests from local community, it was decided to

establish a Mother and Child Healthcare Center at Model Complex which could serve as basic

Healthcare Unit to reduce the maternal and infant mortality rate in the area.

After continuous vigilant services the Health Department pronounced the QMCHCC as

Government’s Authorized Vaccination Campaign Center for Polio Eradication Program and

Training Point for Traditional Dais Course.

A very nominal fee (Rs.700-1000) is being charged from the patients recommended for

normal delivery including the medicinal cost. Complicated cases are referred to other

hospitals a free ambulance service is provided to such patients.

QMCHCC is playing its vital role to minimize the IMR and MMR by educating and training

of local people of more than 30 villages. The community surrounded by Qarshi Model

W e have both extraordinary opportunities to go forward and equally strong challenges

to contend with: relentless competition for our students and faculty, growing pres-

sures and demands on our resources, and the increasing complexity and uncertainty of

our business, economic, and political environment. Despite these challenges, we have every

reason to be optimistic about our strengths and our ability to succeed. Being optimistic, we

expect that coming years hold even greater promise for us.

Our entry in the realm of education must be marked by the same span of ambition and

imagination that great scholars of the past -Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, Sir Ziauddin Ahmad

Zuberi; Dr Gulam Rasool Chaudhury; Sir Sahibzada Abdul Qayum; Abdul Ali Khan, Sheikh

Abdul Hamid, and Dr. Atta-ur-Rehman- espoused. What does this require of us? First, while

we must value and preserve those things that make Qarshi University a distinctive and special

place, we must also respond to a competitive and changing world. This means that we must

consistently evaluate what we are doing and effect change when necessary to advance our

mission. Second, we must be strategic and selective in our choices.

We plan to proceed in the spirit of continuing engagement and conversation as we refine and

implement other elements of our vision set forth for the University. It is this commitment to

openness and debate that must continue to characterize our decision-making faculty, so basic

to achieving our objectives.

Our world today is more competitive, and it is changing more rapidly. Extraordinary

opportunity lies ahead of us. Seizing that opportunity will require clarity of vision and

strength of commitment. The strength of our commitment to being a university of renown has

to be as clear as possible.

As a leading university with a distinctive commitment to undergraduate and graduate

education, Qarshi University aspires to unrivaled education and research to contribute to the

welfare of our dear country. It seeks to fulfill this mission by cultivating a diverse community

of learning that produces leaders across a wide spectrum of human endeavor.

Message by the Chairman, BoG

Iqbal Ahmed Qarshi Chairman, BoG

It’s time to ask ourselves what we aspire to, in a

dynamic and shrinking world, in which education and the production

of knowledge will play an even greater role. What shall our vision be

for QARSHI UNIVERSITY as we prepare for its inception? And how do

Qarshi University is a project of Qarshi Foundation; a non-profit welfare organization

funded by the family members of Qarshi group. Following in the footsteps of Qarshi

Foundation, ethos of community welfare also pulsate throughout the structures of Qarshi

University. A proof of this altruistic motive is the fact that Government charter and

recognition from HEC were acquired years before a single student was registered. It was a

solemn commitment by the Qarshi Foundation not to utilize the revenue stream generated by

enrolling students and gradually build the necessary infrastructure.

Being a not for profit organization the University aims to serve the nation by providing

scientific and humanistic knowledge through research and interdisciplinary approaches. To

this end it aims at forming intellectually competent graduates:

who are morally sound, committed to acting justly and open to further growth;

who appreciate freedom of expression, imbibe right attitudes and ideologies gained

through a carefully integrated curriculum of Ethics, Science and Business

Management. and who achieve academic excellence through hard work, analytical

thinking and effective decision making

To meet the above objectives, all the academic programs are geared to create up-to-date

and upright business and social leaders who are:

known to posses the ability to systematically think, analyze and solve problems;

imbued with love and respect for law, country religion and fellow human beings;

conscious of their place in an increasingly interdependent world to manifest their

worth as individuals and as members of the community through hard work

Kitab

‐ul‐S

K itab-ul-sehat was a magazine which was published in early 1950s on weekly basis; it was published for local community to make them aware about the diseases and their

treatment using herbal medicines. Later on it was introduced as a course/program for young Islamic scholars.

Kitab-ul-Sehat is course taught to the young Islamic scholars of Madrasa Jamia Ashrafia Muslim town Lahore and Madrasa Jamia al-faysal ul-binnat , model town, Lahore.

The purpose of this course/program is to give the basic practice and herbal medicine is knowledge. The purpose of this program is that young Islamic scholars can, not only facilitate the community with their religious knowledge but also support the community with their tibbi knowledge as well.

It was a common practice in Islamic Madaris in past where young scholars were taught the subject of diseases and their treatment using eastern medicines, but during the course of time this practice of teaching such subject was lost, may due to the less attraction of people in herbal medicines or evolution in allopathic medicines.

Qarshi Foundation took this noble initiative again of teaching young scholars with its Kitab-ul-Sehat program where young scholars can also be tibbi physicians and can uplift the local community and play their role in the least addressed areas for medical facilities.

Kitab ul Sehat is a teaching program specially designed to give awareness of basic medical knowledge to Madrassa Students. So, they can provide health related guidance to others along with Islamic studies in their professional life and spend a healthy life. It is also an effort for the revival of Tibbi education for Madrassa students which is not in practice since ages. after the end of each semester students are reward as.

Each position holder are awarded cash prizes of:

Rs.10, 000 for each 1st position;

Rs. 7,000 for each 2nd position;
