Do you know ?Gerund is a verb + ing form

that is used as a noun . Because of its function, the gerund can be : Subject , Object of the Verbs and

Object of prepositions and also complements. (taken from a

handbook of English grammar written by Slamet Riyanto )

Example :• Studying is important.• I love cooking.• She’s interested in climbing mountain.

Present participle always followed by ‘to be’ because its function as a verb. But, it doesn’t happen to Gerund since Gerund is not a verb.

Usage of Gerund

Gerund can be followed by object or not.

Example :1. Drawing

posters is my ability. (with object)

2. Drawing is my ability. (without object)

as subject of a sentence

Example:• I like to eat fried egg I like eating fried egg.• It started to rain It stared raining.

Some verbs can be followed by the gerund form or the infinitive form without a big change in meaning

A gerund frequently used as the object of preposition. We can put it after preposition.

For Example :1. Jonghyun is good at

singing.2. Taemin is addicted

with dancing.
