ANNOUNCING THE ART OF JOURNALSVIRTUAL EXHIBITION
TheDelawareDivisionoftheArts,DelawareDivisionofLibraries,andtheGovernmentInformation
Centerarepleasedtoannounceanewvirtualexhibitionresultingfromapartnershipbetweenthe
three
agencies.
The
virtual
exhibition,
titled
The
Art
of
Journals,
is
a
case
study
that
explores
Delaware
painterVictorLetonoffandthelinkbetweenhisjournalingandhisartwork.Thisprojectisdesignedto
encourageDelawareanstoexploretherichnessofartisticexpressionandfostercreativityandlearning
intheirownlives.
TheArtofJournalsvirtualexhibitionisavailableathttp://state.lib.de.us/letonoff. Thereleaseofthe
virtualexhibitionistimedtocoincidewithVictorLetonoffsartexhibition,CapturingtheLight,which
willbeonviewintheDivisionoftheArtsMezzanineGalleryintheCarvelStateBuildinginWilmington
fromMay728,2010.TheexhibitionopensonFriday,May7withareceptiontomeettheartistfrom5
8p.m.VisitorstothereceptiononFriday,May7willhavetheopportunitytoexplorethevirtual
exhibitiononacomputerintheGallery.
LewesbasedartistVictorLetonoffusessketchbooks,aformofjournaling,toworkoutissueslike
lightandcolorwithhispaintings,chroniclehisartisticprogress,andrecorddailyideasandinspirations.
Thesesketchbooksofferawonderfulinsightintotheworkingsoftheartistsmind.Fortheviewer,the
sketchbooksarealsoadelighttotheeyewiththeircharmingsketches,photographs,postcards,and
otherephemera.
Visitorstothevirtualexhibitionhavetheopportunitytoexplorefivethemes:TheJournals&TheArt;
Artist&TheExhibition;GalleryofJournals;UnleashYourInnerGenius;andLearningJourneys.
TheJournals&TheArtdemonstrateshowLetonoffusesjournalinginthecreativeprocessbydisplayingpagesfromhissketchbooksnexttoimagesoftherelatedpaintings. InArtist&TheExhibition,visitorscanlearnmoreaboutLetonoffandhisbiographyandview
severalselfportraitsfromhissketchbooks.ImagesfromLetonoffsexhibitioninthestates
MezzanineGallerywillbeaddedtothissectionaftertheshowhasbeeninstalled.
TheGalleryofJournalspresentsthreeofLetonoffssketchbooksintheirentiretywithhighresolutionandtheabilitytozoomandreadtranscriptionsofthepages.AudiofilesofLetonoff
discussingthejournalpagesandhisartaccompanythissection.

Thelasttwosections,LearningJourneysandUnleashYourInnerGeniuslinktoDelawarelibrary
resources.LearningJourneysisalibraryprograminwhichparticipantsdiscover,exploreand
discusstheirinformallifelonglearningpaths.Theprogramenablesparticipantstounleashtheir
innergeniusthroughthepoweroftrackingandbuildinginspirationoveralifetime(i.e.journaling).
UnleashYourInnerGeniuswillhelpparticipantsstartontheirownpersonallearningjourney.Discoverbooksandwebsitesthatshowcasetips,tools,andtechniquesforpersonalgrowth,career
enrichment,andcreativeexpression.

TheinteragencycollaborationstartedwithAnnieNorman,StateLibrarian,whometLetonofflast
springafterlearningofhisinterestinjournalsatanArtsCouncilmeeting.NormanandChrys
Dudbridge,Director,LewesPublicLibrary,arrangedforLetonofftopresentabouthisjournaling
practiceduringaLearningJourneysprogramattheLewesPublicLibrary,hislocalpubliclibrary.
ParticipantsintheprogramrecommendedthathisnotebooksbeaccessibletoallDelawareans.
