Dear Friends,

Let’s go on a road trip! Let’s us travel around together (even when we are apart) follow-

ing Jesus on adventures of all kinds. We will follow Jesus, beginning in Galilee, up a mid-

point mountain, then through Judea, with our final destination in Jerusalem.

Here is your travel guide and your backpack of supplies for our journey together with Je-

sus. Each week, a new video guide will come out on Wednesday from July 8th to August

5th.

We are mutually grateful to be travelling together. We are especially grateful for the

folks who have put together this fun time:

Heather Wykrent, fearless navigator and snacks

Michelle Smith, Austin outing travel guide

Kathleen Macaulay, in charge of the music playlist

Amanda Fuqua, games at every rest stop

Erin Johnson, arts & crafts

Pastor Sharolyn Browning, storyteller

We should wash our hands often, but especially when

you see this^^^ symbol in our travel guide. Even in

Bible Times it was important to wash your hands,

especially before going to the Temple. There was a

great bronze water basin for ritual cleaning called

the “Laver”. This is also the Spanish and Hebrew

verb meaning “to wash.”

We should wear our face-mask out in public, so we

can all stay healthy. When you see <<<“face-mask

Fred” it is especially important!

Let’s hit the road...Jesus is driving

Bible Story: Luke 5:1-11 1Once while Jesus was standing beside the lake of Gennesaret, and the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, 2he saw two boats there at the shore of the lake; the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. 3He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little way from the shore. Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat. 4When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch." 5Simon answered, "Master, we have worked all night long but have caught nothing. Yet if you say so, I will let down the nets." 6When they had done this, they caught so many fish that their nets were beginning to break. 7So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both boats, so that they began to sink. 8But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, say-ing, "Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man!" 9For he and all who were with him were amazed at the catch of fish that they had taken; 10and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. Then Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching peo-ple." 11When they had brought their boats to shore, they left everything and followed him.

I wonder…

What special tal-

ents or skills God

gave just you?

What do you want

to do when you grow

up? (can be more

than one!)

How is God getting

you ready to do your

work (vocation) in

the world?

How is God getting

the world ready for

you?

Zone:

Crafts &

Snacks

Craft: "Miraculous Catch of Fish Mobile*" Supplies provided: cardboard tube(s), paper plate, glitter, string/yarn What you will need: scissors, glue, markers/crayons (optional for decorating tube or plate) Create the fish: Step 1: Flatten the cardboard tube (if you have some around the house, you can make more!). Step 2: Cut along the lines to create strips. You’ll end up with football shaped rings. Step 3: Cut the ring apart at one fold, cut 2 1/2" slits on near each end to make the tail of the fish. Step 4: Fit together in the shape of Jesus fish. Decorate the fish: You may decorate the fish however you'd like, color with markers, paint them, or really make them sparkle by painting them with a mixture of 1/2 glue and 1/2 water, then sprinkle them with glitter (and let them dry about an hour). Make the mobile: Step 1: Cut out the center of the paper plate. Step 2: Punch or cut holes in the paper plate for however many fish you made. Step 3: Tie one side of string around each fish. Step 4: Tie other side of string through hole in plate. Step 5: Tie 3 strings around ring of plate so you can hang your mobile. HANG YOUR MOBILE SOMEPLACE WHERE YOU CAN ENJOY IT!

Snack Goldfish crackers -- Wash your hands while singing “Baby Shark”. Dump your Goldfish on a napkin or plate. Draw the Sea of Galilee or any body of water on a separate piece of paper and imagine all the fish down below the surface. Have you ever seen the ocean or the fish down below the surface? As you enjoy your snack of "fish," imagine all the ocean life that exists below the surface of the water. Prayer suggestion/topic: ocean life, clean water, pollution, creatures “Be present at our table Lord; be here and everywhere adored; Thy creatures bless, and grant that we may feast in paradise with thee.”

Activities &

Outings

Get a move on! Supplies: Use these supplies to set up an obstacle course – feel free to use other household

items to make it even more challenging!

Pool noodle^ Bucket^ Jump rope^ Blind fold^ 4 plastic cups^ – save these because we will use them again during Week 5

^ Provided in the supply packet provided to those who registered

Today we are learning about how Jesus calls his disciples and us to follow him! Some-times we are led to accomplish something that feels very challenging and we might feel worried or scared about it, but Jesus asks us to trust Him and trust that if we are in His hands and care, all will be good! Keep this in mind as you complete this obstacle course or play follow the leader!

Partner Obstacle Relay for folks in elementary & middle school

The challenge with this obstacle course is that you will go through it blindfolded! But, don’t worry, you will have a partner (sibling, parent, or friend) who will guide you through it! Your partner can guide you by holding your hand or shoulders, but if you have to socially distance, your partner can guide you using words. Remember, the key is to TRUST your partner to guide you, FOLLOW directions carefully, and you will be SUCCESSFUL! For an added challenge, if you have at least 4 people in your group, have someone use a timer to see how quickly each pair can get through the obstacle course. Whoever gets through the fastest without hitting the obstacles, wins the challenge!

Follow the Leader (for preschool folks: For our younger friends, pick a person to be the leader and practice FOLLOWING that person through the obstacle course! Given everyone a chance to FOLLOW. For added challenge, the leader can choose different ways to go through, like by hopping or crawling.

Austin Outing: Find a trail to hike or bike! What to do: Austin is home to many wonderful trails and greenbelts. This week we hope you

will find a nice trail to hike or bike as you ponder what it means to follow Jesus! While you hike try taking turns letting your family members lead and follow. How does it feel being the leader? Is it hard, scary or confusing? Is it easy? How does it feel being the follower? Is it hard, scary or confusing? Is it easier than being the leader? Where to find a good trail: 1) The Barton Creek Greenbelt in South Austin (https://
