THEME: World of Knowledge

TOPIC: Animals

FOCUSSED SKILLS: Listening, Reading & Writing

OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

i. match the pictures (stimulus) given to the most suitable

adjective.

ii. write short paragraphs based on the word stimulus given.

iii. write descriptions of animals based on the pictures and

stimulus given.

iv. use appropriate words to form complete sentences.

SKILLS/SPECIFICATIONS:

1.3.1 Listen to key words and phrases in stories, recounts and

descriptions heard.

3.8.1 Read and understand different texts such as instructions,

directions, notices, labels, messages, letters, passages,

recounts, descriptions.

4.7.3 Write simple descriptions with guidance

4.7.6 Write descriptions with little or no guidance.

LANGUAGE ITEMS: Vocabulary ( Adjectives) & Simple sentences

PEDAGOGICAL ITEMS:

LESSON PLAN STEPS

ACTIVITIES TEACHING AIDS/NOTES

Set Induction (5 minutes)

1. Teacher shows a video about animals. Then,

teacher asks pupils general questions.

- What animals can you see from the

video?

Then, teacher writes the answers on mah-jong

paper in semantic web forms.

Attract pupils and

make them

concentrate into the

subject of the video

and to tap their prior

knowledge.

Presentation ( 20 minutes)

1. Teacher pastes a picture of an animal with

some descriptions about it. Then, teacher

reads and asks pupils to read after him/her.

Teacher highlights on the adjectives and

explains to the pupils.

2. Then, teacher gives handout 1 to the pupils.

Pupils need to match the pictures (stimulus) to

the most suitable adjectives. Then, teacher

discusses the answers with the pupils.

3. Teacher distributes handout 2 to the pupils and

asks them to choose suitable adjectives that

have been listed above the handout and fill in

the blanks to describe the animals in the

pictures.

To introduce pupils to the way of writing descriptions.

Practice (15 minutes)

1. Teacher distributes handout 3 to the pupils.

Based on the pictures and stimulus given,

pupils write descriptions about the animals by

referring to the example given. After that,

teacher discusses the answers with the pupils.

2. Teacher distributes handout 4 to the pupils.

They need to form complete sentences by

choosing appropriate words provided in the

substitution table. Pupils compare their

answers with their friends.

Production ( 15 minutes)

1. Teacher divides pupils into group of 5 and

each group is given a set of empty booklet to

be pasted in with their work.

Then, leaders from each group will choose an

envelope each contain pictures of animals with

some words.

Each groups need to come up with two

paragraphs that describe animal from

envelopes.

After that, they will paste their work onto the

booklets and decorate them using their

creativity.

Finally, teacher will discuss the pupils answer

together with class and correct their mistakes.

Closure (10 minutes)

Teacher displays a lyric of jazz chant, ‘Pets Jazz’

using power point slides. Teacher demonstrates how

to sing and asks pupils to follow after her. Then, they

sing it together with actions and gestures.

Closure as a wrap up

of the lesson and

make pupils enjoys it.
