Lesson Plan Example
Class: 3Cemerlang
Time: 9.00 am 10.00 am (60 minutes)
Subject: Mathematics
Learning Area: Three Dimensional Shape (3D)
Learning Objectives (From CS): Pupils will be taught to build 3-D shapes.Learning Outcomes (From CS):Pupils will be able to:
(i) Build 3D shapes from given nets.
(ii) Identify simple nets of 3D shapes by completing the task sheet.
Objectives:( i) Pupils will be able to realize the features of 3D shapes when identifying nets.
(ii) Pupils will be able to talk about the features of the 3D shapes
Pre-requisite knowledge: Pupils have been taught on vertices, edges, and faces
Prior knowledge: Pupils have understood and use the vocabulary related to 3-D shapes.
Teaching and learning approaches: Engaged learning approach, cooperative learning approach
Teaching aids / technology: 3D shape nets (cube, cuboid, cylinder, cone, pyramid), real 3D objects (cans, box, birthdayparty hat, pyramid, and tissue box), glues, task sheets, role tag and stopwatch.
Values: Appreciation of arts, Cooperation, patience

Pupils Task : Build 3D shape
1) Teacher numbers pupils from 1 to 5.
2) Teacher asks pupils to sit in the groups based onthe number numbered to them by the teacher. (5 in
a group)
3) Teacher distributes a net of a 3D shape for each
group.
4) Teacher asks every group to glue their 3D shape.
5) Teacher asks the pupils to tell the class what 3D
shape that they just made.
Pupils might be asked:
1.) What is the name ofyour 3D shape?
Pupils might response:
1.) This is a cube.
Glues and 3Dshape nettemplates:

Activity: Identifying characteristics of 3D shapes
1) Teacher asks the pupils to stay in their group.
2) Teacher asks the representatives of each group to
take 3D objects that relate to their 3D net. (Cans,
box, birthday party hat, pyramid, and tissue box)3) Teacher gives out a photocopy of 3D Properties
Table (task sheet 1) to every pupil.
4) In their respective groups, pupils need to discuss
the properties of their assigned shapes and
complete their table.
5) Teacher numbers the pupils in the group from 1 to
5.6) Then, teacher asks the pupils to get in the group
with the same number.
7) The students need to bring their task sheets and
3D objects given.
8) In their new groups, they need to explain their own
3D shapes to other group members with the help of
the 3D objects given.
9) While explaining, the other group members need to
complete the table.
Pupils might be asked:
1. Name of 3D object?2. How many edges?3. How many vertices?
4. How many faces?5. Shape of the base?
Pupils might response:
1.) This is acube/cuboid/cone/cylinder/ pyramid)
2.) It has twelve edges.3.) It has 8 vertices.
4.) It has 4 faces.5.) Square.

Lesson Ending
Lesson Closing: Task Sheet
1. Teacher gives out Task sheet 2 to every pupil. This
task sheet consists of shapes that can be used to
create 3D Shapes. (appendix 4)
2. Pupils need to complete the task sheet
3. Once the pupils have completed the task sheet,
teacher discusses the answers.
Role tag ( timekeeper, interviewer,respondent 1,respondent 2 andrespondent 3)
Riddles
Stop watch.
Task sheet 2

Guess who am I
1. Teacher asks the pupils to sit in their first group of 5.
2. Teacher assigns each member of the group with a
different role. ( time keeper, interviewer, respondent
1, respondent 2 and respondent 3)
3. Teacher explains each role clearly to the pupils.
4. Each time the interviewer posts a riddle. The
respondents have to take turn to answer the riddle.
The Time keeper has to make sure the respondent
answer the riddle in the time given.
5. Teacher monitors the pupils activity.
A piece of emptycard and pencil.
3D objects (cans, box, birthday partyhat, pyramid, and
tissue box)

I am a solid shape.I have no vertex.I have one curved face.I have two flat faces.I can roll on my curve face.
WHAT SHAPE AM I?
Answer: cylinder
I am a solid shape.I have two different faces; one curve face and one flat face.I have one edge because of my curve face.I can roll on my curve face.
WHAT SHAPE AM I?
answer: coneI am a solid shape.I have a flat square faces all in the same sizes.I have 8 vertices.I have 12 edges that are all the same size.
WHAT SHAPE AM I?
Answer: cube
Long ago in EgyptI was a most popular shapeday after day my outline seenbeing built and made
I have five verticesand here is one,I can be seen as a squarealthough I am not one
WHAT SHAPE AM I?
Answer: pyramid
