To Perform Zakat:Introduction

The act of giving/performing zakat means purifying one’s wealth to gain Allah’s blessings to make it grow in goodness.

Take, [O, Muhammad], from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them increase, and invoke [ Allah 's blessings] upon them. Indeed, your

invocations are reassurance for them. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.

It is a zakat to be performed in the month of Ramadan.

It is compulsory upon every Muslim who lived throughout Ramadan.

Can be given in the month of Ramadan, but must be given before Eid prayers.

o The minimum amount for zakat al fitr is one sa` (2.5kg approx.) of food, grain or dried fruit for each member of the family.

How is it observed?I. Begin with the intention to fast.

Can be done in Arabic or in any language that you are familiar with.

Example:

“I Intend to fast tomorrow for the month of Ramadan, for the sake of Allah…”

When to make the intention? The intention must be made/resolved

before sunrise.
