So what is an application?• Software that allows you to perform a task or job.• Applications for desktops/laptops are sometimes called
desktop applications• Applications for mobile devices are usually called apps
Types of Applications• Countless desktop/mobile applications but there are only 2
categories.• 2-Categories• Full-featured• Gadget/Widget
Full-Featured Applications• Perform many different tasks• Examples:
• Microsoft Word• Web Browser (Internet Explorer)• Power Point• Games• Media Players
Gadgets/Widgets• Perform only 1 or 2 jobs• Clock/Calendar• Taskbar• Calculator• Start Menu
Commands• A command tells an application to perform a task.• Siri is an example of an application.• “Siri find me a good restaurant.”• This is an example of a command.
• Microsoft Office products have several commands.
