WHAT WE STAND FOR

The history behind Hallvard Lerøy AS originated when Ole Mikkel Lerøen started selling fresh fish and seafood at the fish market in Bergen. Hallvard Lerøy AS was founded in 1939 and now has a leading position within the farming and sale of seafood, in particular red fish. The company cur-rently has around 1,900 employees, located all over the world. The main office remains at a stone's throw from where it all started in 1899.

OUR VISION:

Hallvard Lerøy has its main office in Bergen. We focus on product development and specific target groups for marketing. Our major customers com-prise the four main chains of supermarkets. Lerøy Brand frozen products experienced a growth in val-ue of 29.5% last year, making Lerøy into the fastest growing brand within the Frozen Fish category. *Our main focus is to develop products which taste good, are clever and innovative. Quality is always key, and we do our utmost to provide high quality at all times, for our products, our customer rela-tionships and our deliveries.Hallvard Lerøy has a sales office in Oslo, with a Key Account Manager for all the supermarket chains. We are currently working on the development of a number of exciting products for 2012, and are look-ing forward to a new year of growth.

Information on salmon and Omega 3 fatty acids Salmon is a fatty fish and salmon fat is an extra rich source of the healthy Omega 3 fatty acids. One portion of salmon contains from 5 to 20% fat, depending on where you measure fat content on the fish. The most important fatty acids in salmon are EPA+DHA and make up around 10-12% of the fat in a salmon. The recommended daily dose of EPA+DHA is 0.25 g per day. One portion with 150 g of salmon with a fat content of 10% covers our requirement for EPA+DHA for an entire week.

How much EPA+DHA should a salmon have? In many ways, salmon reflects the fatty acid content in the salmon's feed. The fish farming industry places a considerable emphasis on optimal and sustainable utilisation of the resources available. Fish oil is a limited resource and requires optimal utilisation. As a result, vegetable oils are used in feed. These have a lower EPA+DHA content. Currently, a 100 g fillet of salmon has 1.6-1.8 g of EPA+DHA. This implies that salmon today which has received approx. 50% of its oil requirement from vegetable oils is still an extremely healthy product.

Studies have shown that even with a moderate increase in the consumption of fish, you gain a positive health effect in relation to prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
