As corn harvest is starting, we are con- tinuing to ship corn and beans from our ele- vators for this fall’s harvest. Transportation out at harvest time can be a challenge. For us to ship grain, we must either own the grain or have title to it. We encourage you to have some new crop sales in place prior to har- vest. We also offer other programs to give us title to the corn and soybeans and still allows you the opportunity to sell later. For corn, we will offer Minimum Price Contracts. These contracts ties your new crop price to a call option. If you are interested in a Minimum Price Con- tract, give us a call. For soybeans, as an alternative to open storage, we will offer a Price Later Contract. Price later gives us title to the beans and gives you the opportunity to price them whenever you want. There is 4¢ per month fee without any minimum charges. Fall Harvest Update Open Storage We will continue to offer open storage this year but the amount taken for open storage could be limited. We will charge three months minimum storage on corn, milo and beans. You still have ten days from delivery to sell your grain before the minimum will start. When grain stays in open storage past June the next year, it limits us to be able to empty our bins for the next fall harvest. Therefore, it is necessary for us to continue the following policy for fall grains. The policy is: Open Storage corn, milo and soybeans will convert to Price Later Contracts on June 1 the following year. Price Later allows you the opportunity to price your grain at any time. Price Later gives the Coop title to the grain so we can clean our bins for the next harvest. Price Later fees will be 4¢ per month. On May 1, you will receive a letter as a reminder that you have open storage grain and the grain will convert to Price Later on June 1. Feed milling and delivery is an important part of our business. We will offer Feed Bank storage to our Feed customers based on your past history. Contact us for your feed bank needs. August 2010 www.leroycoop.coop LeRoy Cooperative Assoc. Cattle Supplements

Quality Liquid Feeds

QLF Super 40 has been an excellent lick tank feed for supplementing cattle on pastures and a protein source for wintering cows. Supplementing with Super 40 and free choice minerals is the conven-ient and economic way to meet your cow herd’s needs. Now is the time to start filling tanks to keep your cows body condition good going into fall and winter.

Rangeland Tub Special!!! ***********

$10/Ton Discount on 4 Tubs $20/Ton Discount on 8 Tubs

Valid thru 10-31-10

Rangeland tubs are another convenient way to supplement cattle on pasture. Rangeland tubs are low moisture, cooked molasses supplements in a biodegradable fiber or plastic containers. It is con-sumed by licking only, as the surface softens by moisture in the air and animal saliva. Tubs deliver the protein and energy your cattle need. We stock all natural 17% and a 30-13 tub.

Rangeland Tubs

The Lick tank advantage:

• Ultimate convenience

• Several small meals across the day

• Opportunity for less domi-nant animals to come to the feed unchallenged

• Virtually no waste

• Intake can change as con-ditions dictate.

New Scale Procedure By: Janelle Wilson

We have added a new feature at all locations for receiving your grain this fall. At each of our scales, there is a “point of scale” computer which will weigh your grain truck and post the test weight and moisture from the tester directly to your scale ticket. This will also give us a computer generated ticket for you to take with you. With this, comes the convenience for us of not having to enter each ticket by hand into our AgTrax software system. This should also achieve accuracy for you, the customer, by us not hand entering the ticket weights and grades. It will be very helpful to the scale person if you have the correct name(s) for the ticket and know how they would like to handle their grain. We would be glad to provide you with a list of your account numbers for your various split accounts. This would ensure that we have the right splits set up for the grain deliveries. If you have a new landlord, now is the time to have that account set up. We hope that you will be patient in our learning process this fall and have a safe & happy harvest.

Fall Fertilizer & Chemicals By: Jerry Tiemeyer, Agronomy, Manager Well, here we are again ready for harvest after another trying spring and it looks like the corn will not be as bad as we feared, but probably not as good as last year. Once the corn comes off and the ground temperature cools, it will be time to apply Valor XLT or Canopy EX for next years soybeans. For next year’s corn, there is one major change on Atrazine. The law now says if any atrazine is applied in the fall ahead of corn or milo, the maximum allowed the following year is 1½ lbs. Please keep this in mind as you plan for corn herbicides. The weak dollar has a good news, bad news affect on agriculture, the good news, is it lets us export more grain to more places, the bad news is it cost more for our imports like fertilizer. As of now there is high world demand for all fertilizers which has caused some supply problems for 18-46-0 and NH3. We have a fair amount bought but it will have to be applied this fall. If you are going to apply this fall, it looks like it would pay to contract your needs, with sav-ings from $20 to $90 per ton. The spring prices is hard to tell at this point. Once again I would like to thank everyone for their support, and wish you a good harvest.

The Le Roy Coop and The Cooperative Finance Association are making available special financing programs available to you for the 2011 crop year. These special rates are only available for products and services provided by The Le Roy Coop . Sign Up Deadline: Wheat Acres 3-15-2011, Spring Crop Acres 5-15-2011

Agronomy Notes By: Todd Strickler, Production Specialist With the beginning of corn harvest underway, we start thinking about other fall activities we can do to prepare for the

best possible 2011 crop. Fall soil sampling can be a good tool to measure current nutrient levels in your soils. You can then use this information to develop a sound fertility program to cover your crop needs next spring. Applying these needed nutrients in the fall can be an excel-lent way to spread your work load and it also gives the fertilizer a chance to break down to more plant-available form through the winter months as well. Another activity that you may want to consider after harvest, is to apply herbicides to control winter annual weeds that germinate this fall. These weeds can use up fall applied fertilizer, harbor insects, and cause uneven planting and moisture conditions next spring if left uncontrolled. They can also be virtually impossible to kill in the spring after over-wintering. Tough weeds like marestail, henbit and chickweed are much easier to control in the fall while they are newly emerged and tender versus waiting until spring when they have developed a large root system and have been “hardened off” from the winter elements. There are several viable chemical options that can be effective for this purpose. We have tried to narrow down the choices to what we feel are the most effective yet economical for you. Check with us for the latest recommendations as you progress through harvest. Still another activity that you will want to think about as you harvest, is evaluating your seed needs for next spring’s plant-ing. This crop has been through several stresses from: excessive water in the spring and early summer, N losses in corn and sud-den drought and heat more recently. Add in a lot of various insect and disease pressures and you end up putting a lot of pressure on yields. In the Asgrow, Dekalb and Croplan Genetics brands, we feel that we can provide you with the best yield consistency with the broadest and most diverse selection of genetics and technologies in the industry today. We have some exciting new ge-netics and technologies in our yield trials this year that look extremely promising for our area. You will want to check these out as the harvest results come in. We believe that these genetics combined with the best yield protecting technologies available will give you the most opportunity to maximize yields and profits. We currently have attractive early discounts available on these brands as well that can help stretch your seed dollars.
