LENT & EASTER 201540 DAYS

Save a baby unit in India’s poorest state

Prayer & Giving Guide

Page 2: Lent prayer and giving guide web

As we reflect upon Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, we’re thinking of those fighting poverty simply to live.

Let’s pray together, that their lives and ours would be transformed this Easter. Let’s commit to following Christ’s example by showing love and compassion to some of the world’s poorest and sickest people.

Just a few months ago her life was saved by a single nurse who worked round-the-clock in the specialist baby unit of Madhipura hospital.

Today the same unit is under threat of permanent closure, along with the rest of Madhipura hospital.

This Lent and Easter we want to share with you a story that will both challenge and inspire you.

Born into one of the poorest places on earth, Smitri was fighting for her life at just three weeks old.

Your gift will protect the specialist baby unit from permanent closure

WEEK 1 18 -21 FEBRUARY

“...just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Matthew 20:28

A nurse keeps careful watch of critically ill Smitri.

WEEK 2 22 -28 FEBRUARY

Pray for the nurses and doctors who work tirelessly for others, despite crumbling accommodation and staff shortages.

Pray throughout Lent for the future of this hospital

Smitri is fortunate. If there aren’t enough staff, the unit stays shut.

The hospital struggles to get the doctors and nurses it needs to staff critical areas like the specialist baby unit and the ICU because of crumbling staff accommodation.

There is nowhere else for the people of Madhipura to turn for specialist baby care.

Attracting enough staff is a matter of life and death.

Nurses are in critically short supply, putting services like the specialist baby unit at risk.

WEEK 3 1 -7 MARCH

“Now Jesus was going up to Jerusalem. On the way, he took the Twelve aside and said to them,

‘We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!’” Matthew 20:17-19

WEEK 4 8 -14 MARCH

Jesus achieved all that He promised. Despite pain and trial, He was raised to life.

We pray for the people of Madhipura, Bihar. Uphold them in their struggles against poverty.

We give thanks for an opportunity of new life in the hospital and in the community as a whole.

Your gift will help provide more nurses by building staff accommodation

Mothers and the children they love, protect and care for. Regular flooding exacerbates their struggle.

WEEK 5 15 -21 MARCH

“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

John 10:10

Jesus offers life, and life to the full, to everyone. Pray that we would all know fullness of life and share it with others.

WEEK 7 29 MARCH - 4 APRIL

“He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.” Matthew 28:6

As Lent draws to a close, we give thanks that Jesus is risen today. He is alive!

Let us pray that we would trust Jesus in everything and follow his example, showing compassion to the poor.

Frequent flooding has put the future of the specialist baby unit, the hospital and the people they serve on a knife-edge.

2 million people, many of whom live on less than £6 a week, rely on these facilities in times of sickness and crisis.ju

Their lives are a constant struggle against the ravages of poverty.

In giving and praying you can save the specialist baby unit and those it serves. You can give a life-line to those who need it most.

WEEK 6 22 -28 MARCH

Pray for the mothers and their children, that they would get all of the care and support they need.

Extreme poverty makes their lives incredibly difficult.

Your gift will save Madhipura Hospital, so it can continue to serve some of India’s poorest people
