“BUILDING YOUR HOUSE UPON A ROCK”

(Saturday Session 4)

Hi! My name is Lena Paul. My twin and I were born and raised in rural Arizona. I attended a one-room school with my mother as my teacher. When I was in the fourth grade I saw a photo of the Sphinx and thought, “I would like to go there someday”. Little did I know that I my life would be blessed with many travel experiences.

I met my husband while attending BYU. We have been blessed with four wonderful children, three sons and one daughter. We have two lovely daughter-in-laws, a grandson and another to make his grand entrance into our world in April.

We have enjoyed so many wonderful things about all the places we have lived. Provo, BYU and the mountains, need I say more? Maryland a lush land where I learned that in humid places it does NOT cool down after the sun goes down Close enough to DC to enjoy our great nation’s historical monuments and incredible museums. Japan has beautiful, gracious, kind people where I reconnected with some of my heritage. Chicago, a beautiful, lively city with wonderful museums and an incredible lakeside drive. Houston, where everything is bigger and a place I seem to keep returning to. In Jakarta, Indonesia I learned that not all Asian countries are like Japan. That poverty is real and how to ponder my life and the great blessings I enjoy while so many suffer. Doha, Qatar where modesty is still cherished when going outside the home. Learning to dune bash. Abu Dhabi, UAE has one of the world’s most beautiful mosques. A city that is contemporary and tolerant of many different cultures. Currently, I am living in Jakarta again. One of the most important things I have learned is there are good people everywhere to associate with. God loves his children deeply, cares for us immensely. He is an active participant in our lives.

I am a member of the Indonesian Heritage Society, a society that promotes study of the culture, history and heritage of Indonesia. I also am a docent at the Jakarta National Museum.

I like to be active and I have played a variety of sports, softball, volleyball, tennis and hiking. I love to travel and meet people.
